Yeah man, I have over 1800 games in my Steam library, so far haven't found any that I want to play on my Steam Deck that straight-up won't run with one Proton version or another. This objectively makes Switch obsolete regardless of sales, since I've got games dating back to 2003 not even counting emulation, and Switch is still receiving one or two old ports at a time. Nintendo should start selling some of their first-party games on PC already, catch up to Sony at least. They're just leaving revenue on the table.

The reason is to have less work making it work on older versions of Windows and to focus more in improving the emulator, there is still the Linux version of course so for me there is no problem.

Latest stable version of Dolphin is 5.0 released almost 6 years ago.
Which is the latest beta/developer revision working on Win7?
based on the dev blog,
5.0-16035 fix running on Win7 but will crash on very large texture packs
5.0-16214 broke xinput
5.0-16236 fixed the input issue
5.0-16453 changes the readme to remove OS older than win10
but they maybe didn't take action yet.

I don't understand... they will put the time in developing it for Linux, Android and MacOS, but not Windows 7? Seems a bit sus.

Yeah I've found out to my own cost that that windows 11 is shit for emulation. I thought it was hardware, driver issues and all sorts why I was getting hiccups and stutters in emus like pcsx2, dolphin and cemu. Turns out, going to windows 10 solves all problems. Windows 11 is garbage

because the aformentioned operating systems are still getting active updates, when windows 7 is essentially depricated at this point. It's not like its not going to work in windows 7, rather if something breaks, windows 7 users are on their own at that front.
Thankfully shouldnt be hard to use older versions.
Dolphin has been pretty good for a long time now so sides a few control updates and problematic games you should be good.
If your stuck on an old machine you should be used to doing your own work to keep things going anyway.
It's open source, you want it to keep supporting on old machine, make a fork and go for it.
I'm still waiting to see if they bring it to DOS.

Hmmmm, interesting choice. It has to be over issues with older OS at this point otherwise all they are doing is limiting their own reach in the community. ATM this is not an issue but as more and more updates role out for the emulator it will become an issue. Personally I use Windows 8.1 Industry Pro (minus a few other things that you can turn off / delete) so this is upsetting. I guess I will be using dolphin on my main computer when the updates to the emulator far exceeds the last build I can use on my 8.1 rig, and that will suck because I use it for parties as well as other day to day tasks.

What exclusivity? Switch emulators started showing up like a year after its release, and now we're even to the point where other portable systems can emulate it. If they don't want PC gamers pirating their games (and even getting exclusive early access to many of them), then they need to provide a convenient alternative.
Well, it happens all the time with feature-rich programs. When you want to use OS/API features that benefit most of the playerbase, you are forced to drop support for older OSes sometimes. This happens with all the systems (I highly doubt that newer emulators are able to launch on Linux kernel 3.x). Windows 7 is a dead-end and doesn't support newer hardware as well. There are still ways to play newer versions of Dolphin including installing second OS onto internal or external drive (you can basically fit Linux onto the drive if you have spare 20 gigs) or even virtualization provided you have resources like a spare graphics card (or even if you have one discrete graphics card and CPU-integrated graphics). So if you want to play newer versions of Dolphin, you can still find a way without getting rid of Windows 7, but older versions work pretty much fine
