Problems regarding PS2

My PS2 is making a lot of noise and if I insert the MCs the farthest possible, they aren't recognized (if I loose them a bit, they are). I have these problems for years and recently my DualShock 2 has had drift.

It's not reading PS1 and PS2 discs. Does that have to do with this problem? It makes a strange noise. My PS2 is Slim so I don't know if it can be considered old.

probably the laser. may need to buy a new one or a new system with a working laser.

I opened the PS2 tray, pulled that thing around the center, cleaned the space between the center and that thing since it had dust and now it's reading the PS1 and PS2 discs but it's making an odd and loud spinning noise when playing the only PS1 disc I have so I can't test others to see if it's the PS2's fault or this game's.

I tested this PS1 disc on the PS3 and it also makes a strange noise, but quieter so it may be the disc's fault.

They aren't not working for you because the resolution of PS1 games is 240p/i depending on the game, with component they can display 240p/i just fine & should be work on the crt tv. but since you're using an hdtv which doesn't support 240p/i, you'll need an upscaler device to upscale it to 480p/i for it to be recognized on an hdtv.
i assume that's what the guide's trying to do?

Yes, on any hdtv if you wanna play PS1 you'd need an upscaler. For PS2 games, since they're 240p/i most of the time, they should be displayed just fine.

And test a dvd and see if it gives the rsod again or not.

No, the PS2 will have a hard time with all CD's, and for fresh new laser it will only take a few plays before it starts showing some symptoms.. Sony really fucked up there..

Just to update the threads since I talked about this problem in all of them and for others to know I found a solution if accessing them in the future.

I assume that too but just to be sure does that mean I'll have to do that every time I want to have display in PS1 games on my PS2 on a HD TV/FHD TV with component or HDMI cables? Would I have that problem on 4K/8K TVs as well?

Yes, my PS2 makes even more noise when playing PS1 games but it wasn't making all this noise and what about the new loud spinning noise (so, I have two kinds of noises at the same time)?

What RSOD? It gave me a red screen once saying to insert a PS1/PS2 game after inserting my PS1 disc while on the PS2 Browser when I didn't even do anything besides being on the latter because I had that red screen right after inserting the disc.

So, what do you mean is that a PS2 with a new laser might stop reading CDs (and maybe DVDs) after reading some PS1 and PS2 CD games because PS1 and PS2 CDs wear the laser a lot or at least playing them makes a loud noise? If so, that doesn't make sense and it's another reason to avoid PS1 (and PS2) CD games. Maybe playing this PS1 CD is really messing up my PS2 like I said. If so, I guess playing burned PS1 and PS2 CD games wear it even more. What about playing PS1 and PS2 games on a PS3, does it wear the PS3's laser more? And what about playing non-games CD discs and DVD discs on the PS2 and on the PS3 and non-games DVD discs on the PS3?

If I want to have display in NTSC PS1 discs I have to select the "NTSC" setting on GSM but then the screen becomes distorted so how can I fix this? Also, how can I play NTSC-J PS1 discs?

Make sure your PS1 games are patched for POPSTARTER etc. and are placed in the POPS folder on the root of drive. Opl will launch the game as long as it's compatible, and of course with the right video cables..

If it's a slim PS2 that's not been mod chipped you can't play PS1 disks from a different region.
If it's a phat PS2 that's not been mod chipped, you can use tonyhax to boot any region PS1 disk including backups, but only if it's a low enough revision of the system.

I was using OPL Daily Build versions which support them since they have integrated POPStarter. Also, the official OPL's GitHub repository says anyone can contribute improvements to OPL due to its open-source nature so how did PS2-Home steal the project? Anyway, I think the PS3 is more compatible with PS1 games so I guess it should be used instead of using the PS2.

EDIT: Now, PS2-Home is redirecting to the official OPL GitHub repository when downloading the latest OPL Beta version instead of their former Daily Build and ifcaro versions. It seems I had bad luck to access PS2-Home at the time. EDIT 2: It seems a PSX-Place user (grimdoomer) released an OPL version which supports over 2 TB exFAT internal HDDs/SSDs/SSHDs and multi-BDM devices. Didn't he steal the project like PS2-Home as well, then? The internal HDDs/SSDs/SSHDs have to be formatted on the PC as GPT and exFAT to work in this version. The official OPL versions only support the APA partition table and wLE can format the internal HDD/SSD/SHD to it (and the file system they get is PFS, which is a proprietary file system used by Sony).

It seems the problem regarding the MC not being recognized if inserted the farthest possible returned and the Multitap isn't recognizing my 64 MB MC. It seems the latter only recognizes official 8 MB MCs.

Dude, if you want a quality video connection for your PS2 there's only two options:

1. Official Sony Component Cable
2. HD Retrovision Component Cable

Both will cost more than a PS2, but the difference in quality between the cheap generic Chinese adapters/cables and this is night and day.

I used to use a generic component cable and there were loads of times the screen would just go black. That was even more annoying when I was playing NFS ProStreet where the races were incredibly fast and I needed to be careful not to crash.

I've been using official component cables for some months. I never had blackouts again.

I'll buy a new TV and it'll be a 4K one unlike my current TV (which is 1080p). I guess I'll buy Portta as well.

You'll need an upscaler for ps1 games. They output at 240p, which most new tvs can't do.

But I think they were talking about PS2 games too.

@BOBdotEXE says 3 PS2 games and most PS1 games will have no display.

Also, I no longer have physical PS1 games, don't plan on having and I can't make downloaded PS1 games work on POPStarter via SMB so I'll only run them via IRISMAN on the PS3. Can that problem happen on the latter?
