I think I understand, but what I read is that you need to use the same (compatible) software than the rest of the industry, not the OS itself.
So, if all the software you need is on another OS that suits you better and/or has better performance, why not switch?

Doesn't matter what the rest of the industry is using to get the work done as long as what you use is 100% compatible with it (or the work to make it compatible is less than the work it takes to keep using their "standard way of work").
I agree, but the 'industry' is set in its ways. I can (and do) use a variety of OS's, but someone that's only familiar with InDesign on a PC would find it almost impossible to get employment in an industry that believes Macs are the way everyone should work. Admittedly there are a handful of other factors at play, and some 'quality of life' things (like keyboard shortcuts being slightly different across platforms), as well as other software, legacy files, etc... but, no, there's no good reason why any platform should be "defacto industry standard" above another in this day and age, it just is.

@AmandaRose Yeah ... AOS 3.1.4 was a whole load of crap wrapped up in crap and baked at 340F for 4 hours and shit out on to our plates... on the plus side it was never actually put out my Commodore so we can write it off as a crap fanfiction (Although the 3.1.4 ROM did fix some stuff that was needed)

Never really got all the hate for Vista - It was pretty much just like Windows 98. Yeah, it pretty much sucked out the gate, had higher system requirements and the drivers wasn't quite there until near the end. Windows 8 Always annoyed me on a desktop machine but then it was designed for touchscreen devices so what do you expect?

For me, it's really hard to have a least favourite as such, I dislike MacOS and IOS but then I've never had to use them for any length of time. As far as IOS goes I just find it too locked down and constrictive (and £99 per year to publish to the app store fuck that )

If you have an operating system you absolutely cannot stand, please post about it below.

Mine definitely has to be Windows 8, because of its excessive focus on touch-controls. Microsoft managed to fuck up the START MENU; how can you possibly screw up something so simple‽ They turned a nice, simple list of pinned programs into a separate unwieldy screen filled with boxes of mismatched sizes (some were squares, some were rectangles, with seemingly no reason given as to the size, strewn practically haphazardly around). It was immensely ugly and not at all convenient.

I'm still baffled why Microsoft decided to keep some of that repulsive bullshit when transitioning to Windows 10, with those intrusive "Live Tiles" on the restored Start Menu. WHY GATES WHY

Windows 7 > Windows 10 > Windows 8, and I've barely used 7!

Doesn't seem like you were even slightly aware that you could resize and even "GASP!!!" remove the boxes/tiles so you never had/have to look at them. Windows 10 can easily be made to look near identical to Windows 7 with no additional or 3rd party apps whatsoever. In fact, after reading a few pages it seems like a LOT of users really don't know much about customizing, tweaking, or basic Windows 10 usage because I see plenty of gripes about it that are easily solved and come down to either user error or not being very well informed. Not singling you out, I just didn't feel the need to go through and quote every misinformed Windows 10 post. For me personally, Windows 10 has been better and FAR, FAR more stable than everything since XP.

Anyway... Windows ME, Vista, iOS, macOS, and Linux are my least favorites.

I kinda have a lot of nostalgia for it now, but memory managing MSDOS was a total nightmare sometimes.. especially with the bizarre differences between extended and expanded memory.
Having flashbacks now.
[insert CRT deguass in place of wibbly lines flashback]

Why oh why does this autoexec.bat and config.sys on my game's boot disc work just fine when the same DOS install and same lines in my C drive equivalent say not enough memory and that I need to tell it about himem.sys

and then there was mscdex when CD games became a thing.

I think I understand, but what I read is that you need to use the same (compatible) software than the rest of the industry, not the OS itself.

I am presuming that is the publishing/photo editing/image fiddling industry going by a few things in the various replaces. To that end you also have screen colours. Can you get wonderfully colour calibrated screens for Windows? Absolutely I have several in service for various clients. However macs occasionally have their own twist ( https://www.eizoglobal.com/library/management/adobergb/index.html https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/macos/visual-design/color/ ) so people sometimes just take the pain of OSX to be sure that their screen matches the one they are sending it to and the printer that knows it and go round in a loop as everybody notes their changes and tweaks things around.
Of course you then get the random author/amateur photo taker/website client that uses whatever junk they have had for a decade look at it on theirs and say it does not look nice*.

*my screens are good. I was doing an Indian restaurant website for someone and picked a nice brown just like on their menu. It was a less nice brown... shall we say evocative of what happens 3 hours after some people eat curry, on the client's side.

I dislike chrome OS for how restrictive it is, to the point where it almost makes apple alright in comparison.

Other then that IDK, back in the early 2010's when I was very young I used to dislike, or not like Windows 7 as much as MacOS (my household had a lot of mac machines back then) and for some reason this weird stigmatization lasted with me for a long time.

It wasn't until I actively tried it out myself in a VM a couple of months ago only to realize that Windows 7 was a genuinely good OS and my judgement was cloudy back then.

I might say one of the windows ones like 8 or vista or even apple os. I don't have much experience with apple. I'm trying to learn linux right now. I've learned a lot, but it's frustrating when you have certain error you can't get rid of. that's my two cents. I have no issues with command line, but without any information on what to do if you get this error or that, linux can be frustrating. I'm learning though.

thanks, I thought you might take offense to that, which wasn't the intention. I want to get up as high as I can get, then take a break for a while.
Nah, XP really doesn’t mean much to me. If someone sees my position as a goal, then I am always flattered.

it probably shouldn't to me, but after the way I was treated on other sites or in my real life, it would make me feel like people respected me or my time.
