Bans occur when you go online while using or after using CFW/homebrew. Pirated games do not install any differently compared to legitimate games. Meaning they will appear identical inside the Nintendo folder and Nintendo doesn't actively cross check if you own the games in the Nintendo folder.
so what i did is perfectly safe and i can continue to play on emunand this way ? why are all the guides telling me to have a different game folder than stock ?

What counts as 'After' using?

i was under the impression that using Homebrew in CFW on Emunand then rebooting to Stock is fine?
emuMMC would not count if you're not going online with it. emuMMC has no bearing on sysMMC and vice versa.

It could be due to paranoia but the more realistic answer, and the one they don't tell you, is to make managing emuMMC & sysMMC simpler. If both of them share the same Nintendo folder, then then will share the same game library but that doesn't necessarily mean that both sysMMC and emuMMC will be able to access that same library simultaneously. The actual difference between a pirated and legitimate game, at least when it comes to digital titles, is the ticket. Legitimate games have tickets signed by Nintendo while pirated games have fake tickets not signed by Nintendo, just for the sake of tricking the system into thinking there is a ticket. When a game is installed, not only are the contents installed to the Nintendo folder but a ticket is also generated to launch that title that is stored within the internal memory. So that is why even if you install a game in sysMMC or emuMMC after creating an emuMMC, the game will not be automatically playable between both even if they share the same Nintendo folder. This is the only other logical reason I can think of for having a Nintendo folder dedicated to both sysMMC and emuMMC.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I completely understood what you said, basically what I'm expecting is that when I start my Switch normally all of my pirated games and hacky stuff won't be recognized by nintendo but my purchased games will be and when I start my emummc all my pirated games and my paid games will be available with their respective save. Isn't that how it's supposed to be ? Thank you very much for your help

Yes, that is what I said and it will help you to understand you why you aren't at risk for being banned. It also may help you to understand what future actions may or may not lead to a ban which is my intention; to not just answer your question but impart you with information that you can help you or others with similar inquiries.

Thanks.

No, im not going online as such, i have the 90dns done and the only online usage is the Homebrew app store, all online play is confined to legitimate titles run in OFW.

yes because the game is not loading there must be some file somewhere?
deleted re installed new game nsp files too

Sorry, I know sometimes I'm really picky with people expressing themselves and myself. You mean "yes" to which of the scenarios? (1-) you want to simply delete saved game ata or (2-) you want to access the directory structure manually to search for any related files so that you can delete them manually (instead of using OFW menus)?

Sysnand and Emunand are essentially two different machines. By design, what you do for Emunand will not effect Sysnand and what you do in Sysnand will not impact Emunand. If both are updated to latest, there is no reason to redo the upgrade but if I were you I would try and figure out how you unintentionally updated one of your *nands. That shouldn’t happen with normal use.

I’m trying to decide on which app to install to manage files over usb etc

I see there is tinfoil, tinleaf, gold leaf and so on and apps like nut and NS-USB Loader.

I understand that tinfoil runs with incognito. I’d like to steer way from incognito and any alterations to the sys nand.

I’m thinking of going with Tinleaf and NS-USB loader as recommended in the following guide.

https://rentry.org/NSUSBInstall

Any suggestions on alternative and pros and cons of each?

My setup will be clean sysnand, and Emunand setup (offline)

Cheers

Before I help you, I want to make sure we're both on the same page. You said you need help deciding on which app to manage files over USB but the link you posted indicates how to install files via USB. Strictly speaking, managing & installing files via USB are two different things usually handled by different apps. So just to be clear, do you need help with an app that manages or installs files via USB?

Actually both 😀 As you can tell I’m new to this, so my understanding of what I need to install is a bit limited. My plan is to install Hekate, back up my sys nand, create an emunand and then install Atmosphere CFW. I then need a way of transferring files and organising them on and to my switch.

In all honesty I’m not clued up on Tinfoil, Tinleaf, goldleaf as well as nut and Ns-usbloader.

I don’t want to mess with my sysnand in anyway so from what I read Tinfoil will do that by the fact it uses incognito. My basic understanding which maybe way off is Tinfoil or Tinleaf make sure your relevant files go in the right place and nut or NS-Usbloader enables the ability to move files over USB.

So Draxzelex, if you have a moment to advise and put me straight if I’m way off your help would be most appreciated?

Hi, I have a new problem, is it normal that when I switch from stock to emummc, my legitimate games get deleted?

I think this is caused by the Nintendo path obviously, but can I fix this? Should I make a new emummc based on my stock with all my games installed?

Hello, I have a few questions. I was keeping up to date with the Switch homebrew scene more than two years ago. I started with SXOS early on. Eventually, my brother started using the Switch and tinkered around with it, but I'm not too sure what he did.

My system verion reads as: 12.0.1|AMS M.19.3|S

When booting, I inject using the SXOS injector, and launch the hekate 5.5.6.bin payload.

It gives me 4 options; CFW through the sysMMC, CFW emuMMC, Stock, and Fusée.

I cannot launh using emuMMC because I receive an error along the lines of "it is not set".

Does that effectively mean that my brother put the cfw on the sysnand? I have searched and I cannot find a clean NAND backup. We have always used airplane mode and never went online to play games. What, if anything, can I do to just use Atmosphere to boot into CFW? Is it possible, at this point, to separate my sysnand and emunand for CFW purposes?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Sysnand is exactly what the S at the end of your system version means

You can follow any good guide as if you were hacking a new system and create a new Emunand in the process:
(Optionally clean your beforehand Sysnand with https://gbatemp.net/threads/clean-the-nand-of-the-nintendo-switch-haku33-homebrew.548620/ please note you will lose your games this way.)

Thanks in advance for any insight.
You bet!

Check the usual suspects:
1) did you update /bootloader/payloads/fusee.bin with the latest version from the Atmosphere GitHub?
2) if one set of sig patches doesn’t work…try the other set:
  • Sigpatches (GBATemp) — alternative Sigpatches for when others don’t seem to work.
  • Sigpatchesget your iTotalJustice Sigpatches here (with free instructions!)

It’s coming back to me. Will review the history so I don’t suggest things we’ve already tried… ;-)

For managing USB files, Hekate is the best tool for the job. You do not install Hekate, in fact its impossible to install it because its a payload so it only ever runs in memory meaning that once you exit Hekate, you will need to resend Hekate in order to use Hekate again.

For installing files via USB, I use a homebrew program that you didn't mention which is TinWoo Installer. Its what I've always personally used and recommend to new users because I've never ever had any issues while using it. Of course, when it comes to USB installation, you need a PC program to push the files via USB which can be accomplished with NS-USBLoader.

The simplest fix would be to have 2 separate Nintendo folders; one for emuMMC and one for sysMMC. Make a copy of your current Nintendo folder and place it anywhere else on your SD card except the root. An easy place to put it is inside your emummc folder. Then change the emmc.ini file to point the Nintendo folder to where you put the copy.
