just tried on a different sd card entirely and no dice unfortunately, and yeah i guess it could be a hardware issue. very strange though bc this is a new 3DS i got back in i think 2017 or so? and it has had basically zero issues otherwise. the error doesn't even crash the whole system either, like i can still exit out to the home menu. i think i might just satisfy myself with playing sapphire lmao, but thank you everyone for all the help

The new 3DS has some hardware issues with some things, have you tried if it works on an old 3DS or a 2DS?

I haven't, but I think that digging up my old 3DS (which I think is back at my childhood home anyway lol) would defeat the purpose/convenience a little bit. I'll try open_agb_firm tonight though! Does anyone know if there's a way to make open_agb_firm launchers on the home screen, or will I just have to boot into it every time?

I've been reading this thread and IDK if anyone here can help me, does anyone know if it's possible to make a Pokemon Polished Crystal (beta 3.0.0) CIA that doesn't show the Save Warning message on startup?

I think there is a code to remove warnings like that, just looks for cheat codes for Pokemon Crystal or whatever Pokemon game tis based on and edit the rom.

Or if it is a Gameboy Color game rom hack just play it in an emulator instead like GameYob or whatever is called.

really strange, but open_agb_firm didn't work either! same exact crash at the same exact moment. it's so frustrating that THIS is the one game i can't get to work lol, because seemingly all the tutorials use emerald as an example if anything 😭

If the hash matches it should load the game without asking you about the save type. Did the game run without the save type prompt?

Try with the European version?
is there a specific european version? every time i see it listed it says "USA, europe" or something similar.

as far as i can tell, i wasn't prompted for any kind of save type prompt!

i've been thinking that maybe i should try for an mgba inject--since i have a new 3ds and it might run alright--but NSUI throws me an error when i try to make one.

If the hash check succeeds and it loads the game without asking you for the save type then the only explanation i have is your 3DS is haunted.

no yeah, neither NSUI nor my 3DS prompt me for anything. could there be anything software or SD-card-wise that could be causing this?

Have you tried making the save somewhere else then convert it using an online comvertor and copy it to your 3DS? I did that but it was with Pokemon DS games so I dunno if you can do that with whatever save format the 3DS uses for GBA games. Gameboy, Super Gameboy and Gameboy Color games run perfectly on the 3DS version of GameYob. Heck if you have another 3DS with the same emulator you can even emulate the link cable!

trimmed roms? also what save type should i be using?

interestingly, when i tried emerald with a sleep patch (idk why but i just thought i'd try it) it actually got a few more words into the intro before freezing lol, not sure what that's all about

yeah, i've been using the one with RTC support. still no idea why this gba game and no others are crashing, though, you'd think someone else would've had this problem in the past

Last time I played a game was hmmm... can't exactly recall.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

There's also this thing where I'm hyperfocused at night and cannot get to sleep.

    @Maximumbeans, I'm doing alright, thanks.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
