Hello I have a new 3ds xl that my brother tried to mod back in 2017 or 2018 anyways he didn’t do it correctly lost all forms of back up and now all it does is boot up and say “An error has occurred: Failed to mount CTRNAND press any button to shutdown”. This is old version of hourglass 9 it is v1.35 so any videos or posts aren’t really the same so they are difficult to follow. Does anyone know if it is possible to unbrick? I’ve attached pictures of what screens of what happens when I turn it on while pressing start and while pressing select. Any help would be very appreciated

Because if you put an older version of luma3ds on CTRNAND if you update your system firmware, the older version doesn't work, so you got to fix that or completely remove it by just leaving luma3ds on the sd card .
That's what i'm trying to confirm. He needs to take a pic of the Luma3DS menu when the system is booted without the sd card sd card inserted.. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@KleinesSinchen I already told him to test the sd card with h2testw, and to make a nand backup, way before i recommend CTRTransfer to him.. And i think he did neither.. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I actually did test the sd card it’s fine it a brand new one and the original one has the nand backup as well

What do you mean you can't boot? It gives the same error?
And what about that pic i told you to take of the Luma3DS menu, when booted without the sd card?

He's asking if you did set up Luma3DS ctrnand. The steps that i told you to take above..
I mean it can’t boot that a blue light comes on and nothing else happens. just a blue light by where charging light usually comes on

With h2testw?

The blue light led is not the same as the charging (orange) led..
Can you boot into the recovery mode with the button combo, by any chance?

I believe it's a hardware issue that's causing this.. If the nand is somehow faulty you can either setup an emunand within GodMode9, or do the CTRTransfer Type D9 posted above by @KleinesSinchen.
If both don't work, you might want to open the 3ds and reseat the WiFi chip, sd card reader (and pray it's not one of the cameras are faulty)..
You can also check for any unresponsive buttons on GodMode9, just press A, B, etc. one by one, if one doesn't respond, it could be a reason, though i'm not sure if a faulty ABXY or D-pad buttons could prevent the system from booting. Though i know that faulty shoulder buttons could prevent the system booting..

You could purchase a new mobo. but at that point. You're not really unbricking rather that fully replacing the problem.
