YAY! I'm so happy right now! Earlier this morning my dad agreed to get me a Wiikey & a Usenet account, but that's not really the big deal. The REAL thing that I'm happy about is that my dad is signing up for the Verizon FiOS Triple Play tomorrow!!!

I tried convincing him for like 2hours, showing him all the pros and cons..and he finally gave in

We're gonna get TV, unlimited US+Canada calling, and FiOS internet. Dunno what plan I'm going to do with the internet though, I'm stuck between 15mb/15mb or 20mb/5mb. There's also a 20mb/20mb..but that's too fast for me (don't need it)

I kinda know the difference between download/upload...but not really. I'm pretty sure I download more, I think, so leaning towards 20mb/5mb

Oh, and it comes with a free 19inch HDTV, which I'm gonna use to replace my old 17" CRT monitor. Hooray!
biggrin.gif

It's really a great deal, only about $100 a month for everything.

Hmm....yep, that's all. Just needed to let my excitement out

Oh, and I had a great party last night

Congrats, and insanely jealous! Oh and if you use private torrent tracker sites get 15 15, if you are just a downloader, 20 5 is the way to go!

Ahah, thank yee. And with private torrent trackers, you mean like upload stuff also, right? With the leeching and all?
If yeah, then no thanks..I don't upload files for ppl [don't wanna be jailed] >.< Only like pictures to photobucket and YouTube videos.

That's the one. Even 5mb is more than enough for private trackers, im here using 1mb in lonely old Wales, if i had 5/5, I would be over the moon! Limited to 1mb in my area until they start doing the phone lines up in the area and we can upgrade to 8mb

really your suppose to upload back what you download on any tracker, private or public. Even so its best to stick to private if you can. You get really fast download speeds and its free, Usenet will cost anywhere from 8-20 a month for unlimited, I checked around about a week ago. Public trackers are slow for me, my max speed is 300 kb a sec, on useset I get the full 300 if I allow multiple connections, on my Private torrent site I also get 300, on public torrent site I get around 100kb if I lucky.

Yea, I heard something about balancing your ratio. But really, that's why torrents are free..because you give back to the community. I'd much rather pay like $8 for 25gb of data (one time charge) to Usenet to JUST download..and risk a lot less. I guess you pay for what you get :\

Wow, nice speeds for all of them except public torrents. Guess Usenet/Torrents are prett-ay good

And uploading is no more illegal than downloading by the way. If you're going to download something through a torrent, you are committed to uploading too

Heh, thank you

And lucky! A car is cool, but I guess I'm on the internet more. I get my permit in 1 month

How old do you have to be to drive in Japan? :0

And haha at the last sentence. This is going to be a BIG change..I currently have 768/128 o.O" That means to download 4.7gb of data it'd take me like 15hours..with FiOS just 30 mins

Oh..really? I always thought the risk is less with just downloading :\
What if you download something through Usenet though, are you still committed to uploading?

no, you do not need to upload back to usenet, but there is one thing you should be careful of. Usenet tends to lead to more errors, thats why they have PAR files. These will help you fix any files that get corrupted as you download. Torrents dont need this, its has a similar built-in feature, so less worry. I use to use Newsgroups for about 4 Years before using Private Torrent. If your worried, you can sign up for a 3 day trial at Giganews, hopefully I am allowed to mention that, if not, im sorry. An advantage to usenet if they generally get posted there first

Argh..PAR files. Yeah, I've read about those. Seems like Torrents have 1 edge over Usenet, or maybe a couple more 'edges'. Is Giganews like Usenet though? Same concept?

giganews is just a place where you can access newsgroups, one of the thousands of companies....

Oh..and I get a free 3day trial? So like, to make sure I want what I want?
How many GB can I download with that trial, if there's a limit?

[gotta go sleep now, i think, be back tomorrow]
