Sony announces some current and classic games coming to PS Plus revamp in June

Sony has finally given us a detailed list of the games that will be available on its revamped PlayStation Plus service that it announced back in March. As promised back then, there are a number of PS1, PS2 and PSP games available for download, as well as PS3 games available to stream with PS4 and PS5 games available for either option (though streaming is not supported in all regions).

Note that Sony says these are "some" of the games that will be available in the "launch time frame" for the new PS Plus. While they don't specify exactly what they consider the launch time frame, it's worth noting that it will not rollout worldwide at the same time. The service will launch in Asia on May 24, in Japan on June 2, North and South American on June 13 and Europe, Australia and New Zealand on June 23, so it's possible that not all of these will be available at launch, especially if it debuts earlier in your region. The blog also stipulates that not all games will be available in all regions, and that streaming may not be available immediately for certain titles, but downloads will be.

It appears as if Sony will honour digital purchases made during the PS3/PS Vita era - for some titles anyway. Since PS1 games could be purchased digitally on the PS3 and Vita, and PSP games could also be purchased digitally on the Vita, anyone who has purchased "select" titles in the past will not have to make a separate purchase or sign up to PS Plus to access them (though it appears as though they will only be available for download, not streaming). Some PS1 and PSP titles will also let you save your game at anytime, have improved resolution, higher framerates, and will include a rewind function.

For those that need a quick refresher, the new PS Plus service will have three tiers; Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential will give users what PS Plus does right now: access to online multiplayer, occasional discounts on the PS Store, and a handful of monthly games to download. Extra adds in part of what PS Now offers right now, with some PS4 and PS5 games being available to download or stream. Premium will let players access a library of classic PlayStation titles from the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP. All of these can be downloaded or streamed, with the exception of the PS3 titles, which can only be streamed. In areas where streaming is not an option, Premium is replaced with the slightly-cheaper Deluxe tier to account for the lack of streaming. (Sony has not mentioned whether the Deluxe tier will be available in regions where streaming is an option for users who aren't interested in streaming.) Sony says the list of available games on the Deluxe and Premium tiers will refresh in the middle of every month.

Yeah sorry Sony, Steam Deck is gonna be my go-to for everything PS3/Vita and older. My PS5 is just for enhanced PS4 games and PS5 games, so it'd be nice if they started making more of the latter rather than trying to charge me monthly to play games I already own physical copies of.

I think it's cool to see relatively obscure titles like Enslaved and Puppeteer on the PS3 list, I'm excited to try those.

I do think it's really weird that certain remasters are locked behind a higher tier, though. You think all PS4 games would be treated equally

Said it before but, I wish there was a cheaper tier than "essential" ...none of the existing/new tiers are even close to value for money.
"Free" shit I'm never going to play is no incentive. Titles I can already play natively on the systems they were designed for but emulated and/or streamed to current hardware is no incentive. Two hour game trials is also no incentive.

Just charge me £20 - £30 for online play, cloud saves, and party chat/messaging... looks like my PSN sub could be going the same way my XB Gold did a decade ago.

Why no PS2 games? I thought they were gonna be included in the service as well, seems odd that not a single game is from that system.

If it weren't for Xbox this'd never happen. Some good came of it.

Still, let's see how it ultimately compares to GamePass.
Yeah, people need to realise Sony are terrible in terms of how they treat their customers (I'm not trying to say Microsoft are great). They always drag their feet and bitch and moan, but pull some of the most terrible sh*t themselves, hypocrites.

If it wasn't for Nintendo being over 2 generations behind in all aspects, Sony would be a joke. Microsoft need to ensure their first party games are polished too going forward. Personally I'd like them to develop some new or more risky IP. I've never been a fan of any of their brands (original, not the newly purchased IP's).

Regardless, Microsoft have literally forced all the big corps to make consumer friendly changes. I worry though, with Microsoft being so far ahead in these areas, they may begin introducing or forcing things we don't want or need.

my PS4 had been collecting dust for the past few months but now I’ll probably play some of these games!
Ghost of tsushima and Death Stranding - I was waiting for these two.

If Essential is the exact same as the current PS+ then why it's more expensive?
I'm paying $49 per year for PS+ and Essential is $59?
I don't like this.

I already have those I like in my own library, so this service maybe isn't for me. PlayStation seems to be saving some games for later.

As stated, those lists are not complete. There's like 700 some games in the PS Now library. There will be more games at launch and also regularly added after launch.

A bump in price, like Netflix is doing.

I never liked paying to play online, so I didn't.

Could somebody explain to me how the higher tiers work, please?

Is it like the essentials tier, where you buy the game for free and have it in your library forever (as long as the subscription lasts) and after a month other games become available while the older ones vanish?

Or is it like a game pass, were these games are always available and the library is growing every month?

I read the news and the official sources but they do not provide a concrete answer...
