RetroArch 1.9.14 (Dec 2021) was the first properly stable release of RetroArch on Wii U in ages (and ages). The vitaQuake 2 core has undergone quite a bit of improvement and now includes cores for three add-ons.
Pretty much, it's now working properly on Wii U. I had a full play through of Zaero and am part way through The Reckoning. I found that in order to get an acceptable frame rate, I had to use the second lowest supported resolution and turn off vertical synchronisation. There's a few slowdowns here and there, however, nothing to actually stop gameplay.
