After a vague and hopeful launch window of February 2022, Valve has come through, as they have announced that the much anticipated Steam Deck will be releasing on February 25th. If you were quick enough on the draw to be part of the first set of pre-orders, your invoice will be sent out on Feb. 25, where you'll have three days to confirm your purchase. Once you've paid for and finalized your order, your Steam Deck will ship on the 28th. After that, Valve will be sending out emails on a weekly basis for those beyond the first wave of units.

Additional details for the curious:
  • We will start sending invites shortly after 10:00 am on February 25th, PST
  • Order emails are sent in the same order that reservations were made.
  • You can only order the Steam Deck model that you originally reserved.
  • Your reservation deposit will be applied to the final price of Steam Deck, and shipping costs are included.

April at the earliest for mine to ship, gives me plenty of time to ensure there aren't any major flaws with it. I don't think there will be, though.
Same here, i assume you went from Q1 to Q2 after the delay?

Anyways, i'm glad to see that Valve has everything in order, i was so worried another delay would occur.

I'm Q2 but early Q2, i'm sure of it
See? When it was announced, I immediatly told my sis and her gamers friends about it
One of them preordered one and I preordered ours literally 2 minutes later
He got a Q1, I got a Q2

Same here, managed to get it in at 5 minutes past the reservation time. I wonder how many people managed to place an order before me (considering all the crashes)
I was on the page at 12:59 and had to refresh once at 1:00 and again during the transaction. I'm just glad it all went through!

Heard of this but never read into it.

Is this digital only linked to your steam account or can it play physical games.

I am not a fan of digital only as I prefer owning it physically, but the concept of streaming games off one system to another does sound like a future proof concept.

Or if its not, maybe someone should do this.

It would make it future proof by streaming it off another system and the provider then improves the system hardware as gaming advances.

And your device is simply streaming newer titles running off systems with the hardware to run it at its highest setting.

If no one is doing this then let's get a kick-start going.

Just think of it as a PC, they don't make physical discs for PC any more save a few exceptions in the form of collector's editions (and even then those installs usually tie to an account). So yeah, pretty much digital only. NOT streaming however, this is using native hardware to play even AAA games at 800p, 30 FPS+. It's more powerful than a PS4, several times as powerful as a Switch in handheld mode.

And yeah you'll want to link it to your Steam account, but you don't necessarily have to. You could just install Windows 10/11 out of the box and use Game Pass or DRM-free stuff or whatever. It's not locked down in any way.

Hmm I might get one, I was thinking of getting that other crowd funded portable thing, cant remember its name.

Maybe try set up on my server to stream games to it.

Got my order in 7 minutes after it went live, apparently. Felt like so much longer at the time when Steam was crashing constantly!

I've given up on PC gaming, but man...I'm all in on the hype for this thing! Can't wait to get it!

Still says mine arrives "Q1 2022", wonder if I'll get it near launch?
Because your computers are cursed?

Haha yeah, I was panicking and almost lost hope. The issue I had was also with my bank as they needed some additional verification, so I had to restart that process each time I tried to reserve it. I'm glad I kept trying :D

Happy to be father... But meh, Steam Deck ;(
Seriously, buy it and sell it on ebay. You'll double your money easily. More money to spend on stuff for the toddler.
