hi, i'm a newbie with Retroarch, i have installed it on my PSVITA and i'm configuring it. I ask your help for some questions:

1) which is the right way to download and install a default core for every system? For example, i Loaded FCEUmm for NES and when I start a game, Retroarch asks me to choose the core. Is it possible to avoid this step and set this core (the only one i have downloaded for NES) as default for NES?
2) I have configured Blinear filtering, Integer scaling and filters for this emulator: now, how can I save this configuration as a default configiguration ONLY for this core?
3) some times, some games aren't detected by Retroarch, for example Altered Beast for Nintendo NES. Does it means that it is not possible to run this game on Retroarch? Or is it possible to modify the rom in order to correctly detect it on Retroarch?

thanks!

An answer to 3:
I would just download the rom again. Get the "no header" version that has the full acceptable name. It won't reject roms that are incompatible with the vita.

I thought it had to do with the rom name before but someone mentioned that it might be a checksum verification to recognize roms.

Edit:. I meant "No-Intro" roms (we want headers).

i tried several others rom for this game, but it isn't detected. I checked theOnline Updater menu, but the "Update database" option insn't available anymore... i don't know how to detect it...probably it shoud be available a converter that can help to make working a not detected game on retroarch...

Are you trying an English version or the Japanese? Only the Japanese is official and I haven't been able to get unofficial roms to appear under a system or download box art.

I tried the Japanese Famicom game (Juuouki) and it worked.

My rom hacks I put in a special folder, load those roms individually, and then in "history" (after starting the game) I find the game and I mark it as a favorite so it appears in my favorites while I play the hack.

These should be correct.

The letters in bold are to avoid page breaks and to stop unwanted parts being emboldened.

Juuouki (1990-07-20)(Asmik)(JP).nes CRC-32: 4de1c214
Juuouki (1990-07-20)(Asmik)(JP)[b2].nes CRC-32: aa6f9ff0
Juuouki (1990-07-20)(Asmik)(JP)[b].nes CRC-32: 097d6475

Juuouki (Japan) (headered).nes CRC-32: 4de1c214

All files were named as above and all were detected and shown in Retroarch's rom browser.

Juuouki (1990-07-20)(Asmik)(JP)[tr en akadewboy][v1.00].nes - worked
Juuouki (Japan) (headered).nes - worked

Juuouki (Japan) (headerless).nes - FDS Bios needed/missing. Unable to test as I don't have the FDS Bios rom.

ah ok, i will look for the jap version!

I decided to install the PS Vita Ultimate Retro Pack from CrazyMac, that includes all emulators already configured, all the roms and every thumbnails and theme
I faced several issues configuring emulators and settings on Retroarch so i prefer to install a pack already configured.
The megapack is really good, and the releaser suggested how not to install roms for not needed systems (delete roms folder and the related playlist).
But i would like to keep only my favourites roms for every sistems, so, for example, in the NES folder roms, i left only my favourite games. But when i run Retroarch, obviously, it detectes all the NES collection present in the mega-pack, because the playlist was created with all the NES games. For example, i put in the NES roms folder only 3 games, but i still see all the games:

As you can see, this is a custom Retroarch version, with really few options, so i don't know how to scan again my folder in order to create the new roms list:

How can I create my own games list?

thank you very much!

TBH, you can rename the files whatever you like. Retroarch only checks for the checksum in it's database when checking files. I haven't had any experience of custom Retroarch playlists so I can't help you there. Sorry. Maybe check or ask in one of the dedicated Retroarch threads,

You will have better luck to make a playlist based on your no-intro folder (system based) and put a default core on your playlist you have made in retroarch. I'm using that app https://github.com/maralterkwkidd/ahk-retroarch-playlist-helpers/releases to make my custom playlist. Even prototype and rom hack are working. You just need to know where you put your files (ux0:// or imc0:// ... )
