A well deserved respect that she alone has won over time. When I met my now-wife, she went under many of my rules, that still stand today. Not shameful or hard rules, just about respect and love. She did them with a few bumps akin to the learning curve of two people knowing each other. After a few months / years, she showed to me that she still had the fire to prove it was not just a temporal thing. Now, we are a couple of months shy of our 16th anniversary, and let me tell you that we are both happy and calm together.
She has the respect that she has earned, and the respect that I am willing to give her because I love her and she has demostrated that she is not going to let me go. I will not let her go until one of us die. It is not as easy as it sounds, tho.
