I know that many people have already asked this question, but can you play CD games with this emulator? Above all, is it possible to play only the data track (track02) without copying the entire CD (thus discarding the music tracks and, if present, the voice acting), obviously to save space on the microSD?

Yes you can play CD games. You can only use .iso files or .bin/.cue files. All other formats will fail AFAIR. I needed to convert all my games.

Thank you. Anyway, if you can use cue/bin format, the same goes for cue/track02.bin only (so leaving out bgms and voice tracks). As for me, I would like to play only the Ojousama Yuna series, recently translated into english, but I have only 1GB free on my microSD....😅

I've tried YS IV, Space Freulein Yuna 1 and 2 (all in full bin/cue format) and graphics and bgms work fine, but in none of them I can hear the voice acting: is it normal that Nitrografx doesn't read the voice tracks? Does it happen to you too?

I mainly played R-type & shadow of the beast recently (I did not notice any problem), I did not test those two games. I will try them this week-end and report back.

The titles I mentioned are three; but anyway I meant if in all the other titles you've tried, you've ever heard the Japanese voice acting (in those with it, of course).

I understood what wou meant ;) I tested Ginga Ojousama Densetsu Yuna (Space Fraulein Yuna) 1 & 2 = no voice... Same iso tested in Retroarch PC = voices OK. It seems that they are not working, maybe Flubba can fix this if he has got the time.

How to reduce the size of PCE ISOS for Nitrografx

Since this emulator does not read voice tracks, and waiting for the author to solve this issue (which is very unlikely), it is useless to keep isos of size between 700/600Mb on the microSD, when you can reduce its size. This should be done for those isos that contain both graphics and bgms on Track02.bin.

You can verify this with CDMage (or other iso tool), noting that all other tracks contain not music, but dialogues in Japanese: these can be easily deleted, since they are not used and occupy useful space.
The size can be reduced to 1/4 or 1/5 of the whole iso.

As for me, I use Isobuster to extract the track02.bin (raw bin) from the ISO and then recreate, with a cue-maker, a new cuesheet file (you can also do it manually).
Freulein Yuna went from 700 to 130 MB and YS IV from 600 to 70 MB, both with fully working BGMs.

Edit: I repeat, this procedure works only with those games that have the graphics entirely in the track02.bin and the other tracks are only vocal. With shoot'm'ups in general it doesn't work (I've tried CD Genji, Spriggan 1/2, Rayxamber 2/3, Cotton, Gate of Thunder and others).

Nitrografx is such an amazing piece of software, thanks for all your work on it flubba. After seeing you at work again, i hope there will be still room for sound improvement and some fixes (and crashes when calling menu) .

at time being still at version 0.7 since 2013 now i see 0.9 version on github but no binaries around https://github.com/FluBBaOfWard/NitroGrafx.

Sorry, but has anyone ever noticed that games, especially noteworthy for shoot'm ups, run too fast, albeit slightly, compared to their normal speed (verifiable, among other things, in the various emulators available for Windows and Android). Raiden, R-Type, Darius, and all the others are practically unplayable: the bullets go at the speed of light, and the enemy ships a little less. Very strange.
Is it possible that it's just my impression? Try it yourself. What do you think?
For the rest, this emulator is excellent.

To me, they are playing at the right speed. I used USA versions of Raiden and R-Type.
