Hello,

I have a PS2 Slim with a V1.2 Crystal Chip. I haven't played it in several years, but I don't remember ever having any problems. I tried to play a game recently and it didn't work. I re-flashed the chip's firmware and cleaned the lens, but it didn't help. After further testing I found:

1. Burned CDs with the Crystal Chip firmware and Boot manager work.
2. PS1 burned CD is recognized but won't boot.
3. Single layer PS2 original games are not recognized, get "The disc could not be read" message.
4. Single layer PS2 burned games are not recognized, get "The disc could not be read" message.
5. Dual layer PS2 original games play with no issues.

I also tried disabling the chip by pressing reset 6 times and I get similar results; dual layer games are the only ones that work.
Any ideas about what is going on?
Thanks

Installer here. Order a KHS-400C laser. In the event that your laser is an HD-7, use lenschanger to reprogram the eeprom to accept it. Make sure you save a backup first, there'll be 3 different eeprom selections (it's a hidden menu). Find the one that works best, and don't forget to desolder the antistatic point.

Thanks for the advice.
I have a PS2 Slim model SCPH-75001. I checked the laser and it's a PVR-802W. I watched some Youtube videos and noted the removal of the antistatic blob from the replacement laser, but it looks like in my case it's a straightforward component swap and eeprom issues don't apply.
