You cut me deep, Shrek. You cut me deep.

Somebody said that to me and it hurts. It hurts because its truer than I'd like to admit. There is a definite air of escapism that underpins gaming as a whole and anyone who has has an interest to the level of, say, signing up to a forum that was originally just a page filled with Gameboy ROMs back in the days and checking it frequently as they either modify yet another device, scan gaming news, play various titles and generally have over 50% of your daily attention focused on things that involve computer games can't really honestly say they have a great life.

What they have is a s**ty life that is made tolerable by the fact that gaming exists. Well, you know what I say?

Would you agree? Either way what do you think because it really got to me as it feels so true, so fellow sportos, motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies and d*ckheads who adore gaming, am I a righteous dude or owner of a sh**y life in denial thanks to the "achievements" gaming presents in lieu of the real thing.

Reality sucks, and I need an escape. What better way to escape than a virtual world? Hell, you can use the same argument for books, movies, plays, costumes/comicon, etc. Anyone who attacks a hobby or profession either doesn't understand it, or resents themselves in one way or another. It's just psychological bullshit.

“There is only a perspective seeing, only a perspective "knowing"; and the more affects we allow to speak about one thing, the more eyes, different eyes, we can use to observe one thing, the more complete will our "concept" of this thing, our "objectivity," be.”

― Friedrich Nietzsche

I was at a point, were I also didn't like my life, playing too much, not many friends, but I was able to really work on myself.
First thing is to forgive yourself all those points, that you don't like about yourself, May it be something about your look, the things you think about, it won't help yourself or anyone else, to hate yourself. This probably occurs some forms of serious diseases. For example if you face heavy overweight, learn to love yourself, forgive yourself for all those bad habits and see, with fasting you can lose 1/2kg a day.
Don't look at where you want to be, look closely where you are right now. Then have some insight, contemplation, who you want to be, what you want to represent. And go step by step. Perfect life won't fall from heaven, it's a decision, that is a path of always remembering yourself. media is so good in taking away our focus and brainwash us to feel certain feelings...
From a young age, I had several entheogenic experiences, doing art, so there never was a point, where I only had gaming. But I spent days and nights with it, collecting a massive collection, all in all overdid it a bit too much. Well, what helped was having other interests, finding good friends and a girlfriend, having kids, sold most parts of my collection and gaining XP in the analog world. Life has so much to give and to offer, its a process, but you can open up for good things. Heck, even this Kim Schmitz Dot Com guy found a pretty woman, everybody can with some form of self esteem. :)
That Nietzsche quote is very true, it really depends, where you put your focus on. If you consume shit everyday, all you see is shit. If you see the beauty of nature, get to know people that are not completely assholes, will help.
Often we can develop addictive patterns, repetetive behavior, overstimulating certain things or activities, may it be gaming, drugs, sex, whatever. I hope you can somehow find an alternative, a healthy balance. digital age combined with corona shit isn't easy for all of us. We live in a seriously sick society..
If there are things, you always wanted to do, climbing a mountain, learning the piano, having great relationships, work on that. Get the abilities to gain those.
Just have a week, a month completely without devices, eat some healthy food, have some wellness, try something new, I'm sure you will feel better.
edit: There came one point, gaming bored me so much, I started a game, just to close it minutes after. I finished several hundred games, found every unknown game I could, but it can feel soulless, empty. Now I am at a point, every few month, I pick a cool game and play it every now and then, have a lot of fun with it, till i finish it, deeply satisfied.

Our time on this earth is so short, why not spend it doing things you enjoy in your free time? Whatever brings you happiness or satisfaction, or even just serves to fill a hole in your life.

That's not to say it's healthy to spend every waking moment gaming or involved in it--there's more to life than just video games. the same goes for sports, for films, any entertainment. You can use them all as ways to spend your time, even gain friends, social circles, build communities around them. It all comes down to how you feel about your life. If you're satisfied, if you're happy with your lifestyle, then congrats.

Playing games excessively is far from making your life 'shitty.'

Those who are addicted to drugs, medicine, smoking, gambling, sports, religion (i.e. nonstop talking about it) are far worse and deeper in that hole than anyone else.

I once heard about a man who had part of his house demolished because he didn't pay what he owe to someone. That was still better than them taking his life.

well, the way I see it is that people should do what makes them happy. I see nothing wrong with that as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. besides, people who say things like that are no more or less human than you are, so they shouldn't have that kind of power over you, making you think you're less than you really are. I remember when video games were considered nerdy, heck they even said that about cell phones in the 80s/90s, yet now almost everyone in the world has one. people just need to grow up.

Well yeah, "excessively". Doing anything excessively is bad. Excessive drinking. Excessive gaming. Excessive eating. You seek escape and refuge in excess, you have a shitty life.
one of my character flaws is that I take everything to the extreme, which is good or bad depending on what it is, I guess. like, I enjoy learning, but sometimes I overdo it (studying for like 8 hours), and when I drank, it would be till I passed out. I've always been that way, so it's both a strength and a weakness.

I thought the title was "slutty" life and I was about to say that I am not sure if gaming has made me a slut or not but I can def tell others are not having the same results as me.

So? It's my life, not yours. If it bothers you that much you can go fuck yourself
