Kingdom Hearts series launches on the Switch this February, available only through cloud streaming

During the last Sakurai Presents livestream demonstrating Sora from Kingdom Hearts being added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a small tease was made that the Kingdom Hearts series would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. New information has been revealed regarding the ports, including the release date. As mentioned during their announcement, Kingdom Hearts 1.5, 2.5, 2.8, and 3 will all be on the Switch, but with the caveat that they'll be relegated to cloud-stream only titles. Additionally, the cloud collection will also be arriving in the west, with a planned launch date of February 10th. If you're curious as to how the game will run on your connection, demos are available to download on the Nintendo eShop as of right now.

Pretty amusing how KHs runs on my shitty laptop, but needs the cloud for the Switch.

Yes, I'm well aware it's because Square is lazy as fuck, and 100+ million Switch owners aren't enough to justify them porting the damn game.

Also, don't buy this piece of crap cloud streaming version. It's going to run like shit, and you can play this game on a toaster laptop. Send Square a message, even though they most likely won't listen.

Instead of charging full price for these so called cloud ports why don't they make a service where you could rent them out? Like how blockbuster and other rental companies did years ago

You *will be* renting them out. You'll just be paying full price for them, and have nothing to show for it when Squeenix decides they don't want to run the server for it anymore.

So they literally cannot be bothered to port either PSP or PS2 games when there have been even Vita games that were ported to the Switch? Yeah not giving them my money.

I don’t trust Square Enix when it comes to providing any services. This also just feels insulting to the Switch. The Switch isn’t the most powerful system but it’s definitely powerful enough to play these games and there’s plenty of games on it to prove that. I think Square Enix is just being lazy and greedy with this “port.”

This type of thing would work better if they were up front about how long the service would be available. If they could guarantee 3 years of service, for example, I wouldn't mind paying $30 or $40 since I know what I'm getting in to.

This is the ultimate in lazy Switch porting. Literally using your Switch as a TV screen to play a game with input lag over an always-connected internet connection is just fucking lame. It's crap like this that should be included with the Nintendo Online purchase.

Not even KH3 needed to be Cloud. It's a Unreal Engine 4 game, with enough tweaks it should have been relatively easy to port it.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA wheeze HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
yeah no UE4 ports on switch have a reputation for being literal dogshit in comparison to home console. Hat in time and GTA trilogy are examples (although in the latter it has more to do with the dogshit optimization)

Seems odd to me that KH series would need to be Cloud only when there's plenty of PS4 era games that don't require Cloud on Switch.
It's not that trivial. Many of those games took a long while to adapt because the Switch has many limitations compared to the PS4, being the most notorious RAM. If the game is RAM intensive, may be very complicated, requiring many optimizations, or maybe not even be feaseble. I'm sure it is the case with KH3. As for KH1 and 2 and friends, I guess they see them just as a plus and not worth the effort and investment if they aren't doing 3.

MVG has a video about this very issue:

Probably the best protection against evil tempers playing the games for free XD

They didn't do it with any of the Final Fantasy games though. I could be wrong but I doubt that's the reason they made it cloud, they probably didn't want to put the effort into optimizing the games for the Switch and Cloud is easier IMO.

Cloud based will pretty much kill any Switch piracy of the game as going online with a pirated copy results in a console ban over time. Also no FPS mods although maybe some config tweaks for people who play legit and take their CFW system online and only use mods and/or overclocking.

This would’ve been an insta-buy for me had it not been a flippin’ cloud version. Well, at least 1.5 + 2.5. You could’ve easily had my money again, Square.

I just love how much low effort is given to make switch games, it's amazing, i don't think there is anything bellow cloud, also will journalists be given a link to a youtube playthrough for review ?
