Do I need to upgrade my R4 card to work on 2DS?

Hello,

Sorry for the NOOB question as I am trying to still learn.

I found my wife's old DS and it had which I believe an original R4 Revolution for DS Card with it. It works with the DS as I can load different ROM games from it. The SD card is a 2gb version.

My kids have a 2DS and they want to play some of these old games on the 2DS. When I insert the R4 card into the 2DS, it is not recognized. Whereas, it is in the DS.

Can anyone point me in a direction to explore what to do next? Thanks!

Most DS flashcarts, especially old ones, are completely non-upgradable. The only way you can get a cart like this running in a 3DS is by installing CFW to disable the internal flashcart blacklist. If you already have CFW installed, then you will probably also need NTR Launcher to get it started. (I think TWiLight Menu should be able to do it too.)

(Technically, there is one alternative, and that's HaxxStation – but no one uses that anymore, particularly because you would need a second DS and a second flashcart to use that on a 3DS.)

If you install CFW on the 2DS you could probably use the R4 for DS games.
