you can use both. theres an experiment that was done to see which modchip reads which media type better. i forget who did it, i think tehskeen.
anywho, from what i remember cyclowiz had a 100% compatibility with DVD-Rs. it was like 60-70% with +R, but both work. and its actually different for each modchip. if you are really curious, i suggest looking for the site yourself.

Does it mess up anything else besides the duplicate channels if you let the update run to 100%?
