hi all,

so im aware that this has probably been discussed elsewhere on a different thread, but having searched through them i cant seem to find an answer to my particular problem. So the n3ds xl in question is one that i picked up on ebay, having googled the blue light problem beforehand as this was why it was listed as parts not working. It appears to be behaving like the rest of the half a second blue light ones, i've tried every different method under the sun, including a hard mod to recover it and get it back up and running again but to no avail.

I've put CFW onto all the families 3ds's and onto a few friends 3ds's as well with no problems so thought i would find this to be an easy fix, but it looks like mine has some other problem

When i try the ntrboot method, i get a solid light until i let go of the buttons at which point it will stay there and then fade off after a second or so, pressing start+power/select+power also doesnt boot luma or godmode9. with the hard mod, i get a flash of the blue screen on the bottom screen, and then it powers back off

All my current testing has been performed using the screens and other boards of my own working n3ds xl which rules out the screens been broken/broken ribbon cables etc that would normally cause the popping speaker error

Im now at a complete loss as to wether or not the board in this 3ds can be saved or if its completely dead, so im hoping someone here on the forums has had a similar experience or has a fair bit more tech knowledge than i have to rule anything else out that may be wrong

thanks in advance guys

Have you tried to boot into recovery mode with the button combo? You know you can put CFW files (Luma & GodMode9) in an sd card and boot it up. But honestly it sounds like a hardware problem, probably something is faulty and needs to be fixed/replaced.

yea, i have tried the button combo but no joy. ive put allsorts of different setups onto an sd card and tried booting it that way but it just flashes blue light and fades. I was hoping that it wasnt going to be hardware related with the high prices of them these days (plus most boards ive come across are overseas and either US or japanese variants) its starting to sound that way though :-(

It's not necessarily the entire motherboard, it could be just individual modules (WiFi, SDcard, camera etc). I would suggest to test swapping the WiFi board (if you have another working 3ds xl) and try to boot it again, if it doesn't do the same with the sdcard slot.

looking at the motherboard, the wifi appears to be on the board as appose to being separate, all parts that ive tested this board with are on my working n3ds xl

Are you talking about https://3ds.hacks.guide/installing-boot9strap-(hardmod) with the soldering and everything? Is that something you have a lot of experience with? Because that has the potential to introduce a whole bunch of wacky new failure points.
hard mod got as far as soldering the wires to the motherboard and creating the sd card side of it by soldering to the pins in a micro sd card adapter. I tried to power it on after this before putting it into an sd card reader and got a flash of a blue screen but it was for like half a second. does that on every power up. ive since removed the wires to further try the other recovery methods via sd card, ntrboot etc but no joy
