New content may be coming for Stardew Valley in the next update

The 1.5.5 update for Stardew Valley has just gone live, and in the patch notes is a suggestion that the 1.5.6 update might contain some new content. "There may be some new content in 1.5.6, too, but it's not going to be anything huge like 1.5." Previously, Stardew developer ConcernedApe had said he wasn't sure if he'd be releasing new content for the game as he was busy working on his next release, ConcernedApe's Haunted Chocolatier.

Modding also seems to be a big part of Stardew's future, as the 1.5.5 patch and the announced plans for 1.5.6 both make modding easier. Along with "various internal changes for mod authors," 1.5.5 moves the game to the MonoGame architecture, futureproofing it and allowing mods to access more than 4GB of RAM. Meanwhile, ConcernedApe is currently working with PathosChild, creator of a popular Stardew Valley modding tool, to add more mod support with update 1.5.6, including some "holy grail" changes. PathosChild has even been given access to the source code to help with the task. So, regardless of if update 1.5.6 has new content or not, PC players will likely be seeing a bevy of new content for Stardew in the form of future mod releases.

This is fantastic news. I absolutely adore this game for so many reasons.

This game literally changed my life. When I had severe mental health problems around its release, this game gave me something to do and work towards during some of my darkest moments.

Later, after multiplayer mods came out (and later official multiplayer), a friend and I bonded over working on a farm together and indirectly led to us becoming romantic partners, as we've remained for years at this point.

I don't think that ConcernedApe will read this, but if he does, thank you. I can't wait to see what kind of mods come from this update and dive back in with my partner to make a new farm.

For people curious about the mobile update, here's what is stated: "Also, mobile 1.5 is still underway, more announcements related to that soon."

Still waiting on the mobile update, since that's the version I own. Currently still version 1.4.5.151, last updated January 12th (according to the Play Store).

At least we know that it's because the mobile port is being handled by someone else than Checklefish now, which is expected after that entire controversy with them.

(Also yay more mod support!)

I played this game, pretty ok, but I like when games have long term support thumbs up for that! Sadly the community kinda sucks.

Wonder how long it will take for mobile to get it.

I do hope the later change makes mods loading faster. SVE and Riverside take 15 minutes to load

Illinois is working to ban toxic food additives that have been banned for decades in other countries; additives that can be replaced and all those countries still have Skittles and Mountain Dew. Title of the piece: GUBMINT WANTS TO TAKE AWAY YOUR CANDY

Gee, I wonder if the author is biased?

@Veho, Sounds and smells like bullshit. They don't give you cancer, and California should know that. I don't get why they stick labels that say "may or may not cause reproductive harm or cancer".

Arsenic doesn't give you cancer either.

Mame should be two sets one for preservation of everything and one set for people who just want to play and enjoy the old old ganes

@Psionic Roshambo, Shouldn't preservation be legal tho?

I swear like 99% of arcade games wouldn't even exist these days outside of MAME the arcade machines are old and busted very few ever saw any sort of home conversion

I mean if a company could use AI to do the work of a home conversion for essentially free why not? The rights for some games are completely lost though
