Hello there!

I've recently managed to firmware-update my "new" bought old 2017 Genesis Flashback.
So internal NAND filled up with some of my favorites... around 90 games.

Just one buggy thing which is annoying me...
All games are there - except "Sonic 3D Blast" and "Sonic & Knuckles" which are shown twice.
I have no idea why and how... they are only once in the .ini.

If I delete both games in the .ini and push the file to the Genesis, the two games as well as their duplicates are removed.

Here the relevant part of the .ini - perhaps someone can help or figure out what I've overlooked :rofl2:

Code:
...

[Sonic the Hedgehog 3]
File=/sdcard/Games/SonicHedgehog3.bin
Platform=Genesis
Genre=Sonic
Description=Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a 1994 platform game developed and published by Sega. Like previous Sonic games, players traverse side-scrolling levels at high speeds while collecting rings and defeating enemies. They control Sonic and Tails, who attempt to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds to stop the evil Doctor Robotnik from relaunching his space station, the Death Egg, after it crash-lands on a mysterious floating island. Sonic 3 introduces Knuckles the Echidna, the island guardian, who lays traps for Sonic and Tails.

[Sonic 3D Blast]
File=/sdcard/Games/Sonic3DBlast.bin
Platform=Genesis
Genre=Sonic
Description=Sonic 3D Blast, known in Europe and Japan as Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island, is a 1996 platform game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series for the Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn. As Sonic the Hedgehog, the player embarks on a journey to save the Flickies, birds enslaved by Doctor Robotnik. The player must guide Sonic through a series of themed levels to collect Flickies and defeat Robotnik. Though it retains game mechanics from prior Sonic games, Sonic 3D Blast is differentiated by its isometric perspective, with pre-rendered 3D models converted into sprites.

[Sonic & Knuckles]
File=/sdcard/Games/SonicAndKnuckles.bin
Platform=Genesis
Genre=Sonic
Description=Sonic & Knuckles is a 1994 platform video game developed and published by Sega. The sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994), players control Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna in their quests to save Angel Island; Sonic tries to prevent Doctor Robotnik from relaunching his orbital weapon, the Death Egg, while Knuckles scuffles with Robotnik's minion, EggRobo. Like previous Sonic games, players traverse side-scrolling levels at high speeds while collecting rings and defeating enemies.

[Splatterhouse 3]
File=/sdcard/Games/Splatterhouse3.bin
Platform=Genesis
Genre=Sega
Description=Splatterhouse 3, known in Japan as Splatterhouse Part 3 (stylized as SPLATTERHOUSE • 3) is a horror themed beat'em up video game released by Namco for the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1993. It is the sequel to Splatterhouse 2 and was one of the first games to be given a rating by Sega's own Videogame Rating Council. In North America the game was given an MA-13 rating by the council for its graphic violence and gore. Unlike its predecessors, it was not originally released in Europe. The game was included as an unlockable extra in the 2010 remake, with new artwork replacing the digitized photographs due to legal reasons.

I recently discovered that there must be another file directing the Sonic games originally included with the console to that folder.
If you change the:
"Genre=Sonic" to "#Genre=Sonic" they will show only once.

    Tandem even

    i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

    Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    @The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    AI assisted game creation might become a thing
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Don some VR glasses and gloves and talk to the computer and paint entire worlds
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    "OK Cortana I want that mountain a little taller and more snow on top, and I would like some random ancient pine forest around the bottom"
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    "Now we need a spring fed river flowing down the north side and add some wild life appropriate for the biome"
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Many TBs of assets and the programming of something like that is going to be tough but I think it's something we might see in 20 years maybe sooner
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    @Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    will just take some time for games made using those things to be completed and released
