So my card came in today, but on the box it shows the following URL: www.r4i-sdhc.com, not www.r4ids.cn.

well you will have to use the firmware on their site or retrogamefan's firmware

Oh hell that one is weird.
With an empty SD card, what happens when you try to launch the cart? What kind of error do you see?
My card looks something like that. Try putting the unofficial dstt software on it and renaming TTMENU.DAT to R4i.PK. Worked for me.
Is there a way to update this card and where do I find the files?
R4 3DS Upgrade SDHC RTS Lite 2014.
It works ok on my N3DS as well as DSi, but not that fond of the interface. The game list is supposed to be alphabetical, but fails, Games beginning with a letter may appear on two places, making it difficult to find the game I am looking for.
As I understand it's a clone, because of the .hk reference in the front?
Would like a better interface if possible, with folders.
Now it's just a list of games, even if I put games in folders.
I can choose two themes, White (pic below) and blue. Blue theme has the words: DS Happy Box New 3.01 on upper screen.
Would be thankful if there is a guide where I can read more on my options to upgrade, if possible.

r4isdhc.hk carts don't have a timebomb. You're thinking of r4isdhc.com
And, this is the last cart you want running YSmenu. It will permanently brick it.

And if that doesn't work try formatting your SD as described here: https://dsi.cfw.guide/sd-card-setup.html (it's the DSi CFW guide, but the SD formatting works well for flashcards too, SD Formatter tends to fix misbehaving cards where other tools won't)
