fail0verflow team discover PS5 root keys (symmetric) including per-console root key

FDoUDczWQBAkPwB.png

Following the recent news that famous security engineer Andy Nguyen has managed to enable debug settings on his own PlayStation 5, we are now receiving claims that the well-known hacking group fail0verflow have been able to extract all symmetric PS5 root keys, including per-console root keys.

While not much information is yet known about the process, it's worth noting that although they are claiming to be able to read the keys for encrypted files, it is likely not possible at this point to re-sign modified files in a way that the system would accept them. However, this remains a very positive first step into gaining further understanding in to how the PlayStation 5 works.

It is worth mentioning that fail0verflow are famously anti-piracy and once decided against releasing their Wii U exploit knowing it would result in software piracy.

So are they infamous or famous? Or are they not famous at all as they cancel out :wtf:
They can be both. Infamous for their hacking and famously (or well known) for being against piracy.

is it just me or is the PS scene the worst if it comes down to homebrew/hacking?
I feel like all they care about is pirating games and nothing else.
The ps vita scene is insane, probably the best homebrew scene In my opinion, at least for the consoles I own and tinkered with.

Sort of (At least with the PS4). There are still some great homebrew tools like emulators and Linux. But piracy is still the prominent reason anyone exploits their PS4.

(I really want to see Linux on the PS5 as the PS4 is my current main Linux machine but would love an upgrade)

Good luck finding one. :P
I'm trying to get one for like 6 months now...but retailers are permanently out of stock and resellers are selling them for like $1500 where I live....No thanks.... :rofl2:

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if half the xmas temps just want to get a PS5.

Only reason my brother got his was that I worked retail, it was still a pain though and I made it explicitly clear I only did it because it was for him. Last thing I need is half an Army asking for them.

I'd go with the Sixth/Seventh gen consoles, mainly the PSP and OG Xbox.

Get a bot or follow a restock twitter/telegram group.
I got mine under the local MSRP in less than a week from an official retailer, using the heads up from a telegram group.

"However, this remains a very positive first step into gaining further understanding in to how the PlayStation 5 works."

In other words, "We gonna jailbreak PS5 and be runnin' 'backups' soon!"

Not that we support piracy here at GBATemp.

True, I never owned an OG Xbox but I have 2 friends that showed me theirs and it probably is the best scene, I forgot about it. For the PSP there is some nice stuff, I have access to that scene with the Vita but most of the stuff I like with the PSP are enhanced features from the Vita scene.
