Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been announced for the Oculus Quest 2

gtadddddsddd.png

The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition won't be the only play to experience in a modern form. Oculus announced a VR spin on an old classic during its Facebook Connect event, revealing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Oculus Quest 2. We got nothing more than the confirmation that the game exists, and that "it's a project many years in the making". We've seen games ported to VR before, with the recent release of Resident Evil 4 VR for the Oculus Quest 2 as well. What are your thoughts? Are you excited to see Grand Theft Auto in VR, or are you wary of how this open world game will play in virtual reality?

I'm actually excited for this. When they ported LA Noire to VR a couple of years ago, I was hugely impressed at the time. Sure, it was a dead and empty world (glorified tech demo), but mechanically it was awesome. That one fist fight that only lasted for a few seconds was awesome.

Can't wait to fuck and murder prostitutes in VR, it'll be a lot less messy than doing it all the time in the real world!

But honestly, I have serious doubts this will be good based on the kind of game GTA is, but I suppose we'll see whenever it gets shit out.

I heard it was pretty good. How long did you play it before you came to that conclusion?
You clearly havent played it and going off what you heard.

Its even stated its not the same, it has chunks of thr game missing.

The interaction is pretty crap, its not rocket science to jump through a window, rather than hover through it.

All they needed to do was change the game from 3rd person to 1st, that can be done using code then port it to vr.

But nope, theyve tried to remake the game and its been done badly, especially like i said how Facebook love to diss the psvr, yet re4 feels like a weak early adaptation of a vr game.

Then we have the likes of re7.

But i guess, if you have played it or even seen footage maybe youd understand.

Now if it it cant get a cube game in vr then how and what will they have to cut when porting gta sa.

Re4 VR is amazing, im having a blast playing It. Its really hard to sell vr games without trying It for real, flat screens dont do justice. Im curious to see this gta sa port

Re4 looks shit in vr, and it has had parts of the game cut out.

So facebook wants to brag about been the best vr experience, yet it cant even get a retro game to run like the proper game but in vr.

While they like to dis the psvr, we had re7 that pisses over that pathetic excuse they want to pass retroevil 4 as.

And whats the odds, gta sa will have content stripped from it too.
No shit RE7 VR is better. A VR release was planned, so they developed around that. RE4 was a game released over a decade and a half ago. Obviously they had to cut shit from it. Half of that stuff would be nausea inducing. A terrible comparison.

And with San Andreas? Aside from some vehicles, and even prostitution... I sincerely doubt there's much in the game that needs cut to accommodate for VR.

Definitive edition is just another mobile port rerelease, this VR port will probably the exact same.

One can slap on as many fancy shaders and mods as one wants but it'll always be a broken mess.

If it wasn't in the mobile port then no.
It will be in first person, and it's not the mobile port, it's the unreal engine version. Wait til it's released til you start panning it.

Yeah, I loved La Noire in VR. It was buggy, but it showed the potential of open world VR experiences

I'm looking forward to this, but would have preferred Vice City. Although the thought of playing that RC helicopter mission in VR would be painful.

I honestly couldn't be more excited. I've wanted a VR GTA game since like 2013 when I saw this video () years ago. I almost bought an Oculus dev kit just to experience it. I've tried to get GTA V working in VR but couldn't get it working well due to mods being a pain in the ass to work out every time they update the damn game. San Andreas is my favorite game in the series and I've played it a little in VR with mods but it was really janky and didn't work well.
Personally I'd love it if more devs ported their old games to the quest 2 because I've played unofficial ports of retro fps games on the quest 2 (half life, doom 1/2/3, RTCW etc.) and they're always amazing.
I am a bit worried about any possible censorship though after seeing what they've done with RE4 on the Quest 2. It won't stop me from enjoying the games but it is annoying.

Now you can fail to follow the damn train in first person, eh.
If they for real achieve Motorcycle controls were you need to turn your wrist to accelerate, they already won me over.
Yet, I'm curious how they'd implement bike physics. You sure ain't supposed to move your legs, since those won't get tracked anyway.

Or running instead of walking, stamina and all that stuff. There are so many things they might need to figure out how to implement properly for it to feel just right. Needless to say I'm sceptical, even though I wish for this to be good.

Lol, if they also gonna keep the original physics, expect to hurl irl whenever a vehicle or something leaves the ground and starts spinning like crazy, lol

I don't think the definitive edition is just another regurgitated mobile port, surprisingly enough.
The definitive edition has been reported as being remade in Unreal Engine, and I can't find a single source that says the mobile port uses that as well.

Now, if this VR port's "a project many years in the making", I can't imagine it's based off the definitive edition... and you know what that means :creep:

i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market

and nvidia is already doing ARM

i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

AI assisted game creation might become a thing

Many TBs of assets and the programming of something like that is going to be tough but I think it's something we might see in 20 years maybe sooner
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
will just take some time for games made using those things to be completed and released
