Hi, I am a potential PS5 customer and I wonder what if the internal SSD in PS5 breaks down? Will there be any way to restore PS5 functionality or will the console become a weight?

is the system stored in the internal ssd storage? in the case of the PS4, the internal HDD has simply been replaced, in the PS5 there is an internal SSD like a chip on the board which is probably difficult to replace. They could make a slot for an internal SSD or at least the ability to install the system on an external SSD.

btw, afaik, ps5 games have to be on the internal ssd if you copy them, because usb isn't fast enough. ps4 games can be on an external drive though. if you have ps5 games on there, they have to be moved to internal storage. I've been playing Ratchet and Clank, and I can tell you the drive is fast as hell. I've encountered 0 load times in my four hours.

Just buy an m.2 drive and the issue becomes nonexistent, but objectively speaking it shouldn’t be a problem for decades to come, if ever. There’s not a whole lot of writes and rewrites going on in the background as you play, and with wear levelling in place the endurance should be exceedingly high.

The latest firmware added support for m.2 expansion, anyone particularly worried about wear and tear of the internal memory can just install games on a PCIe 4 add-in drive.

From a brief read of the spec, the SSD array is made out of TH58LJT0T24BA4C chips, they’re TLC so they sacrifice some reliability and speed for the sake of capacity, but even they have a life expectancy of 114 years under normal wear conditions (around 1500-3000 write cycles since it’s 3D). In a console the wear conditions are not “normal”, the SSD array is only ever written to when you install or save (erases only occur when you write over a cell), most daily operations are performed in RAM. Long story short, unless you really grind this thing, you’re not going to see any issues whatsoever.
