Thanks for reporting... but the broader issue here (for u at least) is why don't you have bootmii or priiloader installed?
Back in the day it was essential, in case you bricked your Wii, but now personally I see little point because:

1. Initially I installed The homebrew channel, a ULGX forwarder and 3 cIOS on my main Wii with no issues. Since then I haven't installed anything else, and don't plan on installing anything else, so pretty unlikely that I will brick my Wii by installing something bad. If I do get into installing Wiiware wads, then they will be installed to emuNAND.

2. I have 4.3 so nothing can currently update my Wii. Back in the day there was the fear than Nintendo would issue an update that would brick a modded Wii. This update could come on a game disk or across WiFi. There are no new game disks now so that route is out, and my Wii isn't connected to WiFi. Even if I was on WiFi it's unlikely Nintendo will send a 4.4 update now, as they haven't sent a Wii update for over 10 years.

3. Even if my Wii did get bricked, I could buy a second hand replacement for relatively nothing. A Wii console without accessories costs about £10. Back in the day they cost hundreds of pounds (or dollars). But now second hand ones are abundant and dirt cheap (provided you don't care if they are scratched). I myself have a Wii and 2 spares!

But thank you for your concern! :)

Fair enough, all valid points, especially that last one, but there's no downside to installing these things.

In fact some priiloader system menu hacks are neat, like the newly released 480p system menu fix system menu hack, region free, moving the disc channel, etc.and some settings like autobooting or one of my personal favorites the disable the shutdown to idle setting, so by default the Wii turns off to red, instead of yellow. If you leave a portable hdd always connected to a USB port, leaving it set to idle will seriously increase the wear and tear on the drive as it's always spinning. That may not be applicable to you depending on the hardware u use or your config

Another concern is when kids play on the console they may accidentally do something stupid if they somehow gain access to the wrong homebrew app. Unlikely, but still not impossible. That being said the wrong homebrew could still brick a console with priiloader installed, so not even that can fully protect you from kids. You can lock or keep risky apps off your media, but if u got novice pre-teens testing things out that they read online, it's more likely they'll try a theme or custom channel or something than remove priiloader

I agree Priiloader has some useful hacks, but I guess that I'm unusual in that none of them are useful for me.

My Wii is revision 60 so doesn't need the 480p fix.
I use ULGX to play games and that region frees them, so I don't need the region free setting.
I have no desire to move the disk channel or autoboot.
A Wii will only shutdown to yellow if you have WiFi enabled and the Wiiconnect24 service switched on. I have both disabled. I realise some people may use Riiconnect, in which case it is useful for them.
There is no power to my hard disk in standby. Probably because it goes to red standby.
I'm not concerned about someone else breaking my Wii because I have 2 SD Cards, one with all the dangerous homebrew I used when setting up the Wii, such as hackmii and YAWMM. The one in the Wii only has ULGX and some emulators. In ULGX i have locked the settings. I don't have young kids, but even if I did there isn't much anyone could do to break anything really, and I have backups of my SD Card and USB disk so as long as it wasn't bricked I could restore them.

I get it, it's kind of like owning a car that you never drive but sit in from time to time or just drive around the parking lot or something, there's no real need to wear a seat belt, even though it certainly doesn't hurt and takes very little effort, I get why you wouldn't necessarily feel the need. But I'll still tell people that they should ALWAYS wear a seat belt, and respect their freedom to make their own decisions

Anyway, I would like to thank @XFlak for Modmii. It's an amazingly slick and extremely useful utility.
I'm sure it has helped many people safely mod their Wii!
Amongst other things it helped me create a blank emuNAND, and set it up on my Wii, which I'm sure I couldn’t have done without Modmiis help.
It's brilliant that it is still being updated and maintained by @XFlak so many thanks and Best Wishes to him!

Hello! I was hoping I could get some help. I'm trying to mod, or I guess re-mod, my wii. I know it has been modded before because I remember running games from an external hard drive when I was little but I don't see any channels pointing towards mods in the main menu now. It currently has 4.2U firmware and I was following the ModMii instructions for first time modding but it does something I can't find a solution for. I ran the exe on my pc and have all the downloaded files transferred to my SD card but right after the dialog about running boot.elf and scams warnings, it just goes into black screen with the cd-rom constantly lit. I tried letting it run for several minutes but nothing happens. I also tried downloading files directly from the bootmii and bannerbomb in case there's a more updated file or something but that didn't fix it. I hope somebody can help. Thank youuu!!!

Hi again! Long-ish update here to take you through my journey hahaha

As a person who is shy to ask for help, was even hesitant to post my first one earlier, I tried downloading and using just the files from bootmii and bannerbomb site to get homebrew and bootmii then continue ModMii instructions from there. It got me to the scam warning screen and press 1 part, but it then says the installation cannot continue because "There is no usable or vulnerable IOS on this wii" I found a solution on reddit where I had to install IOS58 WAD manually. After installing the WAD, booting up the hackmii installer goes straight to the black screen of death again.

While I was just about to lose hope, I formatted the SD card (which I didn't do earlier since it was empty FAT32 anyway) and re-unzipped the files onto it and finally it worked. It was smooth sailing from there. Thank you to all the people who made the guide posts and everything, couldn't have done it without them. Happy gaming and happy holidays everyone! Will try to donate something for the holidays as well.

After years, I dusted off my old Wii and brought it back to life with the help of ModMii (thanks!) and RiiConnect24 and noticed something weird.
If I install the IOS80 the RiiConnect24 patcher gives me, then run ModMii's SysCheck updater, it always tells me to install another IOS80 it (ModMii) gives me, even though I pick the option to keep RiiConnect24.
My question is: which copy of IOS80 should I actually keep installed?
Their checksums don't match and their sizes differ as well. I kept the IOS80 from the RiiConnect24 patcher installed for now, mainly because using ModMii alone didn't patch my Wii for use with RiiConnect24 (even though it output some IOSes with RC24 in their names), leading me to believe I need the RiiConnect24 patcher's copy of IOS80. Although it's worth noting RiiConnect24 features seemed to work with ModMii's copy of IOS80 installed too (and it has RC24 in its name, suggesting it's patched for use with RiiConnect24).
Really sorry for the wall of text and thanks in advance for any help!

Both work with RC24, RiiConnect24's ios80 is simply ios80 with only the rc24 patch. Modmii's is actually ios60 with all available patches including the rc24 patch.

I think Modmii's is better, but honestly most of the time they will function the exact same. RC24's ios80 carries some risk of 003 bricking, whereas Modmii's doesn't have this risk, but it's only a risk if the console was originally Korean then poorly region changed (which most people with consoles like this have no idea). Also, Modmii's system menu IOS will allow you to run riiconnect24 on any system menu version (not just 4.3), and ModMii' s will allow fakesigned content to be played even after being moved to the SD card menu.

I hope this helps answer your question!

Just re-modded my wii and everything seemed to go smooth. I used YAWMM to make some channels of some VC games, then moved them to the SD card. The transfers work fine, but when I try to go to the SD menu the console freezes. It also freezes if I try to look at the channels in Data Management. Hopefully this is generic like elf, dol, ios? It's a Sandisk 4 gig SD that I've been using with no issues until now. I'm on System Menu 4.1U. I'm sure this isn't enough info. Just posted in case it was an easy fix.

I had modded before with str2hax, so I had homebrew and bootmii already. So I passed the exploit step, but reinstalled everything else. I couldn't find the cleanup feature at the time, but I just ran it now. It worked!! Thanks for the help.
