Hi so I found an unpatched unit (used) for sale and I fear it might have been updated to the latest firmware without using ChoiDujourNX or daybreak.

So my question is whether it's possible to lose autorcm or perhaps recover this functionality? Thanks.

If it had AutoRCM set when it was updated it will lose that yes. However setting it again is as simple as booting to RCM through the joy con rail and going into Hekate or any other utility that can set AutoRCM and enabling it again. You never lose any "hacking" options by updating a v1 console since the exploits used are in hardware.

When updating without Daybreak/ChoiDujourNX then yes I think autorcm will have been disabled. But you can just re-enable it again inside of hekate provided you have a jig or some other method of getting into rcm.

AutoRCM is simply a corruption of BOOT0. BOOT0 is also firmware-specific so whenever the firmware is updated, BOOT0 is also updated which would indirectly remove AutoRCM. However this doesn't mean you can't just re-enable AutoRCM after a firmware update. Alternatively, you can use a homebrew application such as Daybreak or ChoiDujourNX to update your firmware instead in order to retain AutoRCM after they update your console.
