'God of War' lands on PC in January

2018' God of War is one of the PS4's most iconic exclusives and it will soon be accessible to more gamers. PlayStation announced today that the title is headed to Steam in January and released a new trailer for the announcement:

Enter the Norse realm
His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.

Grasp a second chance
Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.

Journey to a dark, elemental world of fearsome creatures
From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains and caves of pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.

Engage in visceral, physical combat
With an over the shoulder camera that brings the player closer to the action than ever before, fights in God of War™ mirror the pantheon of Norse creatures Kratos will face: grand, gritty and grueling. A new main weapon and new abilities retain the defining spirit of the God of War series while presenting a vision of conflict that forges new ground in the genre.

This version of God of War will, as expected, come with some PC-enhanced features as follows:

  • High Fidelity Graphics
Striking visuals enhanced on PC. Enjoy true 4K resolution, on supported devices, [MU1] with unlocked framerates for peak performance. Dial in your settings via a wide range of graphical presets and options including higher resolution shadows, improved screen space reflections, the addition of GTAO and SSDO, and much more.
  • NVIDIA DLSS and Reflex Support
Quality meets performance. Harness the AI power of NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) to boost frame rates and generate beautiful, sharp images on select Nvidia GPUs. Utilize NVIDIA Reflex low latency technology allowing you to react quicker and hit harder combos with the responsive gameplay you crave on GeForce GPUs.

  • Controls Customization
Play your way. With support for the DUALSHOCK 4 and DUALSENSE wireless controllers, a wide range of other gamepads, and fully customizable bindings for mouse and keyboard, you have the power to fine-tune every action to match your playstyle.

  • Ultra-wide Support
Immerse yourself like never before. Journey through the Norse realms taking in breathtaking vistas in panoramic widescreen. With 21:9 ultra-widescreen support, God of War presents a cinema quality experience that further expands the original seamless theatrical vision.

In addition to DualShock 4 and DualSense wireless controllers support, keyboard and mouse players will be able to fully customize the bindings for their personalized setup.

God of War on PC will also come with the following digital content:
  • Death’s Vow Armor Sets for Kratos and Atreus
  • Exile’s Guardian Shield Skin

True, but more revenue is more revenue regardless, and if both of their major competitors are doing it, what harm is there? They could mimic Sony and keep games exclusive to their hardware for two years or so, then port them to PC. Besides, Nintendo consoles are always the fastest out of the gate to be emulated at full speed on PC.
I don't know, man. Don't forget Nintendo first party development has been directed at kids, on paper at least. And part of the appeal to parents is being on a restricted environment that is safe for kids even if they play online with friends.

To top this they'll be competing directly with the Steam Deck and the their biggest differentiator for older people are the exclusives. And emulations is still done by a minority of players. Most still buy, mostly for lack of knowledge, but still.

Their primary target audience for hardware and software alike can still be children, no reason that has to change. But why wouldn't they also want to profit from the interest that PC gamers have in their products? And why wouldn't they want to sell games directly to the people who own Steam Deck, rather than attempt to "compete" with it by leaving emulation as the only option? Given the advanced state of Ryujinx/Yuzu, Steam Deck will be able to function as a "Switch Pro" regardless, so Ninty may as well make some scratch off it in the process.

Oh whoa. Didn't think the PS exclusive games would really go to PC.
Now im hyped for the uncharted collection to hit steam.
Hopefully modders will fix Sony's blunder of removing donut Drake from uncharted 4.

I wish the hokuto no Ken Yakuza game would get a port too...

The thing is, this is a pretty awkward decision. Wasn't god of war was a PS exclusive? If they're gonna release PS exclusive's to pc, then what's the point getting a ps? I might just grab a pc.

what's next? bloodbourne on gamepass? (would be fantastic)

This is a promotion for God of War Ragnarok. You like number 4 and want to play the sequel? Well get a PS5.

Seems they won't be waiting as long to port games going forward, though. I'd expect Horizon Forbidden West to be Playstation exclusive for two years at most, same with Ragnarok. The GeForce Now leak suggests pretty much every Playstation exclusive save Spider-Man is headed to PC as well.

oh didn't knew there was another god of war after the viking one. heh, since I can't play god of war, don't much follow up the series. But still, i think this is a good move for us. It's so weird that profit driven company like Sony started to take actions for user-feasibility. Guess business is not going as expected behind the curtains.

I still want my damn bloodbourne on my xbox though lmao

Oh don't kid yourself, this move is entirely about increasing profits. You can get a copy of God of War on PS4 for $15 or less, and that comes with a free next-gen upgrade if you have a PS5. Meanwhile, it'll sell like crazy at launch for $60 on PC.

That doesn't mean their profits right now are bad, Sony unquestionably won the console wars last gen. But they can always be even better.

What is it with Sony porting only the 4th installment of their IPs to PC?
For real.
I am glad about both, GoW 2018 and Uncharted 4, coming to PC because of what that means; that Sony is finally, truly understanding they've been missing out on huge amounts of money pointlessly, but I can't be truly excited about the games themselves when they're a part of storylines that span across multiple games that are not officially available on PC in a native manner.

I really, really hope that for both cases, Sony eventually ports the collections they've released on PS3 and PS4 respectively, God of War Saga and The Nathan Drake Collection.

Welp. Didn't noticed that they're selling it full price. That ruined my whole optimistic look lmao

Do you mean the previous one or the current one? If you mean the current war, is there even a 'war' at the moment? Don't get me wrong, I don't care for each brand. I hate to be a 'fan' of a brand. Just asking out of curiosity.

For example; I was planning to get ps5 but heavily turned off how it looks and always it's always out-of-stocked. Same goes for series x but completely different story for series s. My last interaction was x360 and never bothered to get one ever since when it had 3 ring of death. But I really wanted to play re:village and it was dirt cheap (compared to it's bigger siblings) and got it. And to be fair, they've even convinced me to get a game pass as well. I mean this is only me but I'm sure that many more people might have bought the the series s casually like me. I mean after all it's cheaper than switch atm. Just because of this microsoft might be a step ahead. Don't you think?

Again, pls don't get me wrong, I'm just trying to grasp a more knowledgable view on the topic by blurting out my speculations. Definitely not trying to start an argument :)

I mean the previous one. PS4 sold over 116 million units, with Xbox One selling under 50 million. Even Switch quickly passed Xbox One and is sitting up around 90 million sales right now, though some might not find that comparison fair since Nintendo has that segment of the market (portable/hybrid) all to themselves. Regardless, so many sales last gen mean that Sony has that many more people in their ecosystem than the other two, and so it's both the chip shortages and higher demand keeping PS5 stock low/non-existent. Makes sense that they'd want to start porting more games to PC now, since they can't take full advantage of that demand at the moment.

Among Us is like one of the most popular games of all time and it doesn't have a single polygon.
sure, as its a current phase, take minecraft, fornight, roblox, its current.

god of war, ps2 is less likely to please todays market, the main target audience that would likely buy ps2 ports are those that played it back then, and those likely kept their ps2 and game collection.

so to the point, it would be a waste of time and money to port old ps2 titles over to the pc.

There could be an interesting knock on effect here. If all the exclusive games eventually become available on PC (probably on Epic, so rife for piracy) it becomes less compelling to hack your console.
