Hacking Question about the state of my 3ds

its been a while since i have played my hacked 3ds and forgot what i can do to play on it again (hacked)

Here is my spec
Powered Off
3DS XL
ver 4.4.0-10U
Gateway cartridge

can i run like ds snes nes games off this setup? do i need gateway for this?

Well.. does it still work? You need to install CFW if you want to play VC games including NES/SNES, and TWilightmenu++ homebrew software to run DS games. Here's the guide.

its working fine for now. i checked and it has luma3ds 6.6 installed.
was wondering if these options/config are ok in Luma3DS

Default emuNAND 1
Screen Brightness 4
Splash Off
PIN Lock off
New 3DS CPU off
Dev features Off

Autoboot SysNAND (x)
Use SysNAND Firm if booting with R (x)
Enable loading external FIRMs and modules ()
Use custom path ()
enable region language emu ()
show NAND or user string in System settings (x)
Show GBA boot screen in patched AGB_FIRM ()
Patch SVC/service/archive/ARM9 access ()

also the n3ds has the luma3ds updater (I think). it looks like a blue green 3d mario star with eyes. can i use this to update my luma3ds to the latest or shoud i just use the guide provided above (not sure on the version of the lumaupdater)

for luma under 7.0.5. you will want to go with https://3ds.hacks.guide/a9lh-to-b9s to update to the most recent stuff

@anthony001 It's most likely you're still on A9lh, and you need to convert to boot9strap (use the guide on the link above to do it) in order to upgrade Luma3DS to the latest version.

what homebrew should i use so that i dont need to keep on popping my n3ds back cover just to update/install my apps.

There's Ftpd homebrew app that you can use to transfer files from your phone/PC to your 3DS. It's useful for small files, anything above 1GB will take some time. The Speed is about 300Kbps~1Mbit.

i have just successfully updated my cfw using the guide. can i ask how to safeguard my online activity
so how do i guard myself if i want to do the following:
1. connect online
2. play games online
3. update pksm (needs to download asset for first time use)
4. ultimate updater (might need this to update in the future)
5. spotpass games

what things should i not do to keep myself from being banned

ya dont cheat online, and ya dont pull and chargebacks on credits cards. Dont do those, and you will be fine.

on the most bare minimum what should i backup on my 3ds sd card so that in case of failure i can just slot in a new sd card. i dont really care about installed cia games or apps.

Backup your saves with Checkpoint for 3DS/VC games (if you have any) , DS saves are on the saves folder if you use TWilightmenu, Luma/GodMode9 & other homebrew software (fbi, Homebrew Channel..) files should be on the sd card you can either backup or re-DL'em from the internet.
