Analogue introduces its Analogue OS for the upcoming Pocket handheld device

Analogue's latest FPGA system is almost here, after two years of waiting. With the handheld Analogue Pocket's imminent launch this December, Analogue took some time to showcase a new tidbit about the handheld device. Rather than just use a simple menu like the MegaSg or SuperNt, the Pocket will be running its own custom operating system, aptly named Analogue OS. It comes with a number of features, including allowing you to filter your games by developer or publisher, region, revisions, and more. Analogue OS will also let users add custom boxart or title screen images for your whole library, make custom playlists of games, capture screenshots, provide statistics of your general gameplay, and save or load savestates.

And this is all done on official cartridges--not through emulation. In an interview with Polygon, Christopher Taber, one of Analogue's developers claimed, "It is more than just being complex but dually difficult to do this reliably, let alone on physical cartridges. As far as I know we’re the first to ever develop the technology to capture and load save states instantly during gameplay on physical cartridges."

Analogue OS will be available on the Pocket and Duo systems. Currently, there are no plans to put the new OS on any of their previous hardware. On launch, it'll support features for Game Boy, Color, Advance, and Game Gear, with future updates planned for Neo Geo Pocket Color, TurboGrafix16, and Atari Lynx games. In addition, the gameplay tracking, library sorting, and savestate capabilities will not be ready for the initial release of Analogue OS 1.0--they're planned to be added in version 1.1, whenever that releases.

Did anyone even manage to preorder any of these?? I literally waited and kept on refreshing the page before the preordering started, only for it to go out of stock the second it went live...

I managed to preorder a black one. The estimate I've seen flying around was that they allowed about 5000 pre-orders for this first run.

Is there a reason why there is not an analogue pocket specific forum? Like there is for gameboy advance, etc?
Because before it actually got to people's hands, the hardware was vaporware.

It's funny how all the YouTubers I follow.managed to get their preorders in... Sounds like fishy favoritism and/or a slimy way for Analogue to stroke their product.

Yea, it was absolutely fishy AF the first time around, not to mention that this time I literally waited for preorders to go live and got my preorder in pretty much immediately and somehow landed a Q4 2022 delivery...

They literally sent out about two to three dozen review units ahead of the regular launch, about 20 of them to YouTubers and the rest to a bunch of big tech sites. I think only a few of them like MVG and Spawnwave actually got a private order in, and Spawnwave didn't get a review unit.

The newest preorders seem to be heavily determined by the products you bought first and foremost. I only grabbed a link cable, since they finally revealed how they made it compatible with both generations, and I'm in Q1 despite having only ordered after an hour.

I ordered checked out 4 minutes after the preorders opened... If they delay the q4 shipments i will be pissed...

I got in on the very first preorder... no special treatment or contacts here... just was waiting and ready a few minutes before the preorders opened lol - the time was announced before hand and I wasn't busy so for me it was fine.

So if it was my hobby/'business' to make youtube videos on this stuff, you'd be thinking I'm suspicious too :D

Yeah, I got real lucky with my preorder as well. No idea how: Definitely played the refresh game and even got blocked a couple times because my bank thought the payment was "suspicious," and I had to manually enable it. Still got in somehow. lol.

That said, mine DID get lost in the mail and it took a good 3 weeks for Analogue to respond to email inquiry and another two to actually ship a replacement, so I ended up getting mine in late January 2022 instead of mid December 2021. Analogue's communication is pretty horrid.

The entire company feels like it's run by a single person. I hate it.
