I don't mind manually installing updates, but I wish there were an easy way to tell if an update or DLC is out without having to search for them one by one online and comparing them to my current versions, especially since sometimes the updates are identified as something like "version 1.0.1" and sometimes like "v65335", which is confusing to me - which came first? Maybe something like a package manager, but database only (obviously it couldn't host the nsp/nsz/xci files), just to take the time and monotony out of the process. And if I can be really greedy, it'd be even better if it also included patch notes/changelogs, but that's probably asking for too much. Is there something like this around?

I've been wanting something like this for a long time, but recently I discovered purely by accident that a new update was out for Final Fantasy VII, which I didn't think would happen so long after the port's launch, it being a single-player title and all, and I probably never would have found it otherwise without such a tool. So that motivated me to make this thread.
