When I insert a DVD like for example, "Night at the Museum", the DVD says "This Disc is not formatted to play in this region."

I have a USA PlayStation 2 and all my DVD are bought in North America at retail stores so they are all region 1 or Multi.

EDIT: We do have another DVD player in the house and it is for everyone. I need a DVD player for my room and the PS2 is all I have right now. I do not think it would be the laser has I can play games still and certain DVDs like National Treasure still work. I think it is more a problem with the region protection on the DVD itself than my PS2. I have a modchip (Please do not ask me what chip it is. I have no idea.) and its only purpose was so I could purchase and play Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+.

The only time my PS2 ever refused to play a disk was when it was very old. The disk was gold, that's how old we're talking. Some PS2 models struggle with gold or blue tinted disks. If they're the standard silver we all see today and there's still a problem, I suspect it's something more serious, some problem with the region detection perhaps?

How about buying the cheapest DVD player at Walmart? You'd pay something like $20 or less and it would still be way better than a PS2 to play DVDs. Keep your PS2 for playing games only, it will live longer this way.
