I've got everything figured out at this point, except I just can NOT get emuNAND working. I tried dumping my NAND in Wiiflow Light to an external hard drive (because everyone insisted that thumbs and SD cards were a bad idea). The drive is formatted FAT32, 32k cluster size, one partition.

When I tried this on an SD card or thumb, it just dumped to a black screen and the system had to be hard rebooted. On the HDD it just dumps back to WiiFlow Light.

try using ModMii's emunand builder instead. The usb loader emunand tools do work, but ModMii is more foolproof. Boot into neek2o, make sure everything is working (and set video settings etc), then start trying to play emunand-installed wads in your loader.

Remember depending on how your realnand has been softmodded already, that's the version that's being dumped to make an emunand by Wiiflow/USB Loader GX, so unforeseen issues could crop up. The most reliable emunand is a vanilla one.

Also just so you know, some emunand wads can use "CIOS" simple emunand settings, but a few require the full "neek2o" setting in order to run. You'll set these settings in Wiiflow on a per-game basis.

can you give an example which game needs a modmii nand instead of one created by usb loader gx

@op
I also had issues with wiiflow lite and emunand, while usbloader gx didn't had these. So I'm just using usb loader gx (I dont care about look/ui/anything like that.).

I think you misunderstood. What some wads need is neek2o instead of CIOS - https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Wii_cIOS_EmuNAND_Compatibility_List (a "no" means it's not compatible with the simpler CIOS method, and you have to use neek2o)

You *should* be able to use the USB Loader GX-created emunand for everything, but I find it's simpler and more reliable to make your emunand with ModMii.

I've tried that as well, but when I try to boot into neek2o it just crashes to a black screen and the blue light around the optical drive just pulses repeatedly.

Black screen, no text?

If it hangs on terminal text with "reloading bootmii IOS" that's a pretty common issue, you have to make sure Bootmii is installed as an IOS and the bootmii folder is on the SD card. Neek2o uses Bootmii in some capacity to run.

I've been checking my options on using an EnuNAND too.

So far, I've found that using USB Loader GX is my best chance to get it working.

You can create the EmuNAND using USB Loader GX and configure it to load channels and WiiWare too. Forst NAND dump should be done on an SD card and the just copy&paste it into an external HDD on a folder you will later configure to be loaded from USB Loader GX, once you have it like so, then you just load its contents.

ARGH. Still no good. At this point, I would be 100% find with just running completely on emuNAND if it'd make it easier; but no matter what I do, I can't seem to boot from the emuNAND I built. I definitely have Bootmii installed (had to install it as an IOS), I have the Sneek channel installed, I can boot into priiload just find, launchers see the EmuNAND; I feel like I'm missing a component, but no matter how many guides I read, I can't figure out what it is, and no matter what I try, I can't boot an EmuNAND, and I can't use WiiFlowLight to successfully launch any games from it. I did get Tetris to launch last night using the "launch with neek2o" option, but that's not working anymore either.

I used BootMii word for word to make a Uneek, then renaming bootmiineek to bootmii and launching bootmii. Black screen perma-locked. I tried installing the Sneek channel and launching that. Black screen perma-locked. I try launching games that are installed on the EmuNAND. Black screen perma-locked.

I feel like I'm missing some crucial step...I just can't figure out what the hell it is.

Random list of potential issues:

Wii system menus, including emunands, have a limited number of tiles. If you preinstall more wads than there are channel slots when building your emunand, you could bork it.

Hardware compatibility issues. Is there something nonstandard about your SD card? USB hard drive? You're not using a flash drive are you?

File locations. That bootmii folder is on your SD card, right?

You're using a current version of your USB loader, right?

I think I'm giving up on WiiFlow Light. As badly as I wanted this to all come together as envisioned, as much as I prefer WFL to USB Loader GX, WFL is clearly the problem. USBLGX works perfectly with my nands. I can point it to any nand I've built and they all launch without issue. I try it on WiiFlow and it just chokes. It's been 2 solid weeks of dedicating every moment of my free time trying to get that one damned program to work right and I'm getting nowhere. It's just not worth it.

So now my big task is finding a UBLGX theme I like.

A big thank you to XFlak and Exidous for their time helping me.

Hi CMDreamer,

Sorry to bump this up, can you share me your setting of USB loader GX to use EmuNand?
I had a problem: my Emunand can play wiiware games, but cannot run Snes emulator Forwarder.

Remember what forwarders do - they point your Wii to run something on external storage, like SD or USB.

Emunand is a "fake" operating system. It redirects links pointing to what the Wii thinks are real places to fake places. Specifically: emunand implementations can lack "real" SD card access, because that's what they're running on.

USB is also an option. For homebrew or emuNAND.

Thank you for your reply!
So, do you have any advise for me to fix this problem? Can I play an emulator forwarder in Emunand?
I used the USB loader setting to create Emunand (setting => feature => dump to emunand => everything)

There's a bug in the current release that prevents forwarders from working correctly.

I plan to release an update within the next week or two, providing I don't find any new bugs and I can find the time to work on it.

Hi Blackbox,

Thank you, it's great to know that we will have the new release. I hope it can combine with tab mod version, it is really convenience now ^^.

By the way, I also have a problem with USB Loader GX that it is detect 1 USB port only, and duplicate it for 2nd USB port (I discussed it with Cyan as link below).
https://gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx-cant-load-from-both-usb-ports.365916/post-9822079

*Short summary:
I want to use USB port 0 for wii games and USB port 1 for Gamecube games. I tried to use Cios 58 and Cios 252 base on d2x V10 r53 already. My HDD is MBR type.
But My Wii only detect USB port 0 and duplicate it for USB port 1 (for Cios 58, it is only detect USB port 1, no port 0)
I can play Gamecube games as normally through nintendont.

So, if you have any idea or experience to fix it, I hope to get your advises. The attached file is my syscheck.
Thank you a lot!

I had very similar problem but got my emunand wads working on WIIFLOW following this steps:
  • Install bootmii directly from your wii internet conection (I can't post any links yet, I'm a new user, so look for tutorials on youtube for "Install bootmii on your wii without SD card" Install on IOS worked for me, but you can try to install boot2 and see if it works. You can have both options installed I think
  • Create an emunand on your SD card using modmii
  • Install wiiflow using priiloader and change settings to boot wii directly to wiiflow
Everything should work. If not, fiddle with the emunand settings on wiiflow (partial of full emulation, video mode, etc)
Also check your SD:/SNEEK/ and remove any di.bin file or bootmii will be stuck looking for a disk (blue light on your drive)

Let me know if it works, I just registered to reply you :)
