You don't need to do anything additional. Like I just said, whenever an emuMMC is created, it starts out as a copy of sysMMC. Its not created from scratch or thin air.

I already created it. I'm using stock now while my sd card slot is down.
So all the new stuff i added in sysnand wont be in the emunand.

Anything performed in sysMMC after emuMMC is created will not translate to emuMMC; they operate independently after the initial creation.

Yes, that's why I said I wanted to recreate my emunand, and wondering how to do that. To replace it easily

You have to go through the process of making an emuMMC.

I figured. If I can just use that part of the guide then I can do that. I just thought to ask in case there's an easy way to do it or something I might miss, since I already have the partition and stuff in place.

I think it's also that I'm unfamiliar with how hekate changes one already-created emunand to a new one. I can try to figure it out once i try..

With the 'Create emuMMC' option in hekate, someone can select the partition to create it in, but if there's already an emumcc in the partition, will it create a conflict, or easily replace it?

Hi
Thank you all for all the great support, its amazing.

I was wondering if you can help me with few questions please.

I bought a 400gb memory to upgrade my current and was wondering how to go about it the right way:
  • After reading through the guides and posts, to upgrade I believed I have to clone my current to the new one, backup my saves and copy over and most important copy over the emummc and tried to see if i can extend to the new memory size.
My question is can I just forget about the old memory (remove and pack away) and just put the new 400gb inside and redo the whole jailbreak process again. The caviar here is that the switch (nand and emummc) still on old firmware version (9.2).
  • I also have a nand backup for 9.2 and was wondering if I update to lets say the latest firmware both nand and emummc, would I need to create another nand backup or the old one is enough?
Any recommendations and advises welcomed please.
Thank you lot

by memory you mean micro-sd card right? You can redo the process if you want.(or use that guide for changing sd cards)

Your backup could be ok but it depends how you upgrade. If you burn your fuses by upgrading normally then you wouldn't be able to downgrade to it. It might be ok for the emummc though, not sure since I'm still a noob too xD.
Safer bet is probably to make a new backup with the new version.

hey all

got my unpatched switch and 256gb micro sd card and started hacking.

so far this what i have done:
* booted into RCM and backed up the sysnand.
* from rcm - hekate partitioned my memory card to prepare for emummc.
* downloaded sdsetup files - copied those files in the sd card. now the sd card have a partition that windows can see and another partition for emummc
* from hekate - created emummc

now, what do i do for the following?
* whats the best way to boot into emummc and download a game to load? do i need to download NSP files and copy that to sd card load or copy to emummc to load from?
* how do i safely connect to internet from emummc to download stuffs from internet?
* how do i safely boot into sysnand mode to play online games?

thanks all

Hi. If you're using hekate then just boot into the emummc from there. There are some programs that have 'stores' to download games from the switch, but if you connect online with an emummc then you risk being banned by nintendo (from nintendo online stuff). You can use incognito and bar nintendo ip addresses which can work for now though. Personally I'm not going to use any online at all with my emunand.
You can download nsp files (and some programs can handle xci too) and put them on the sd card to install them, or you can use methods that use usb to install them instead. like goldleaf+quark or tinwoo+ns-usbloader. (might be other options besides usb too)
-useful because it's not that great to always put in and out the sd card, which also should be done when turned off or in rcm mode.

If you do want to download online from the switch, there's some threads about how to block the ip addresses from nintendo.

Keep your sysnand clean and you should be able to play online games from it (just don't use custom anything with it, although some things carry less risk apparently, but it depends how safe you wanna be)

Weird question perhaps, but when im connected to wifi (with 90dns) tinfoil download speed is around 10-11 MB but with the LAN adapter (official hori licensed) it shows only speeds between 8-10 and occasionally 11. Why does my wifi seems faster then LAN? Or am i missing something?

ok.

so, how do i access homebrewstore from my hacked switch now?

as i have now hacked my switch and have emummc can i still somehow boot into normal mode and play online games without getting banned?

Hi, I'm coming back to switch CFW after a while. I have 2 Switch consoles. My clean one and my CFW one, which is running 9.2.0. I don't have an emuNAND on it, just the sysNAND. I now want to upgrade from 9.2.0 to the latest CFW using either ChoiDujourNX or Daybreak but neither work.

I have the latest atmosphere, latest sigpatches and downloaded the FW, and extracted to my SD card.
When I open ChoiDujourNX, I get an instant crash.
When I open Daybreak and pick the firmware, I get an error:
Failed to get update information.
Result 0x00234a02

I've tried with FW 10.2.0, 11.0.1 and 12.1.0.
The path is SD:/firmware/Firmware 10.2.0/

I'm on a Mac.

Any suggestions?

Put the 12.1.0 update in its own folder. In other words, make it SD:/Firmware 12.1.0/ instead. Also, you should only use Daybreak.

You boot the homebrew launcher by holding R while launching a game.

The only way to play online safely is to boot stock sysMMC while only using hacks with an emuMMC. If you use the sysMMC for hacks and backups, you will get banned if you connect to the internet.

On the emuMMC, you want to block connections to Nintendo's servers by using Incognito or 90DNS.

It doesn't answer your question, but Tinfoil shop download speeds decrease with 90DNS. Incognito is recommended instead if you want maximum download speeds.

ok. let me try to simplify it for myself.

* to go online safely i need to go into rcm with hekate payload and then seect boot sysnand and then i can use the switch as normal and can go online without being banned. Do i still need to use incognito while in sysnand?

* how do i install tinfoil in my hacked switch to be able to download games? do i need to use incognito mode while using tinfoil? do i boot with emummc to use tinfoil?

thanks

As I typed out my question, I figured it out.
Mac OS adds all these little crappy "." files in every directory. The FW directory was full of them.
I moved to a windows machine and deleted the extra files and now its working fine.

This only works if you have done all hackery with an emuMMC. You do not need to use Incognito or 90DNS with your sysMMC if all hackery has been done with the emuMMC.

Whichever eMMC you're using with Tinfoil (emuMMC or sysMMC) must have Incognito or 90DNS installed to it. If you want to play online with your clean sysMMC, then you must use Tinfoil and all other hackery with your emuMMC.

Hello, I am a 3ds hacking vet but a Switch noob. I don't own a switch and I'm looking to get one but it seems pretty complicated. If I understand correctly, if I'm looking to buy new, I have to check the serials and I get the impression that pretty much all current stock is unhackable (is that correct?), otherwise I'll have to buy an older unit or something that's already hacked or modded. It also seems like mod chips are very hard to get ahold of and nobody even seems to know if the new ones on Taobao et al are even real or good. I wouldn't mind doing it myself but it seems like it'd be a smart idea to get a unit that's already chipped with all the uncertainty I'm reading, but like I said, I'm noob.

So what is generally recommended? I have some disposable income right now so I could shell out for a chipped console but I don't mind doing things myself, and I don't know whether I'd have a preference for atomosphere vs SXOS (or whatever it's called). Where should I begin looking for a console? Is it a good idea to try to get 2 and keep one clean, or is that unnecessary? My goal is really just to get homebrew on there and be able to play backups, export saves, play around with custom fw and retroarch, that kind of thing.
