Yeah I'm having the same problem as xeoblade. I'm guessing it's bc of the 1.4 update but I'm not sure. None of the save editors work with the 1.4 switch save either.

When I transferred from PC to Switch a while back, I had both games on the same version but it kept black screening. Remember to start your game on PC if you haven't played in a while, so it can update the save file to the new version and save again.

Did you try returning the switch save to the PC? They seem to be encrypted now.

EDIT: It's less encryption, and more compression. For anyone wanting to do the save file transfer now, there is a tool to de/re-compress the save file in this thread:

thank you

Help please:
1) which exact files i need to transfer into sdcard? only "Name_XXXX" or all including "BACKUP_SAVE" "SaveGameInfo"?
2) and before that, should i compress them or DEcompress?
2.1) all files or only some of them (which)?

1) You need the "Name_xxxx" and "SaveGameInfo" and they need to be inside of a folder which is also named "Name_xxx"

2) The "Name_xxxx" FILE needs to be compressed on the switch ("SaveGameInfo" doesn't), so if you're Transfering from PC to Switch, compress it. If transferring from Switch to PC. Decompress it.

3) Currently the most up to date Switch version is 1.4.4 while the PC version is 1.4.5. If transferring to switch from PC this can be fixed by editing the files using a text editor. Find and replace the
<gameVersion>1.4.5</gameVersion>
with
<gameVersion>1.4.4</gameVersion>

Note that (at least for me)"Name_xxxx" contains TWO instances of gameVersion, and "SaveGameInfo" should contain one. Also edit the file BEFORE compressing it! If you open up "Name_xxxx" and it's full of gibberish characters, you've opened a compressed file.

Also scroll up in this thread for the compression/decompression tool.

Adding to Eapzy's reply, the Switch savedata is zlib compressed. On Linux, the zlib-flate command can be used to decompress the file. The command is this:

zlib-flate -uncompress < compressedfilename > outputfilename

I renamed the compressed file to "compressed" and outputted it as the original name of my save file.

zlib-flate -uncompress < compressed > Human_258148161

I don't know how you would do this on Windows/MacOS. There are probably online decompressors out there.

I know this is an old thread but thought my experience today could help someone…After copying it over from my PC to my Switch I was able to see my save file when I loaded the game but it would crash. Took me a while to figure out but when it gets decompressed the software removes all the line breaks in the save file, so I opened it up in with a xml editor and removed all the line breaks and made it a jumbled run on sentence mess and it worked!

Does someone know if there are also ways to convert save files from switch to pc for games like witcher 3, immortal fenyx rising or south park? (Manually, without those cloud transfers)

Could you explain better? I have the same problem as you. Should I remove the line breaks in the compressed or decompressed file? How do you do?
