Hacking A Semi-Brick and Two Associated Newbie Questions

What's up guys!

I recently bought a softmodded and semi-bricked Wii.

I searched here, on reddit and in guides for solutions for Semi-brick, but each case I read looked a little different - both to each other and mine - so, being inexperienced, I couldn't pinpoint which one offered the most suitable solution to my problem.

As far as I could understand, the problem revolves around a wrong System Menu update. My console is originally from the USA region - LU654357345 - but the currently installed System Menu is v4.3J on IOS 80 (Preset is set to Japan as well).

I suppose then that I have to reinstall a US System Menu, correct?

My HBC is 1.1.2 / IOS 58 v24.32 and BootMii is v1.5, installed as IOS only.

Can I simply use Modmii's Region Change function to make this change or do I need to do something else before or after?

Associated Newbie Questions

01. I don't have Priiloader installed. Should I install it before trying to resolve the region issue? (I mean, doesn't Semi-brick get in the way of this process?) I had read that to have a working backup Priiloader must be installed on a different IOS than the one I would be recovering (on the Complete Softmod Guide - Bricks Section). What? - Can I use Modmii to install Priiloader correctly too? Or in this case is it recommended to go the "manual" path?

02. The combination of Ignorance, Semi-brick and not having Priiloader installed left me walking on eggshells. For that same reason I didn't post Syscheck here. Is it safe for me to attempt a Sycheck through Modmii to post here? Should I do this before or after installing Priiloader and preparing a Backup?

That is all. In short, I would like to know how to solve Semi-brick, but I have questions associated with precautions to be taken first.

When I try to access the settings area via the Wii Menu, I get an error message from Opera (mac: FIX / US / ENG / index01.html, if I'm not mistaken).

The two associated questions are related to the Syscheck post.

I don't have Priiloader or Syscheck installed. Would Semi-Brick get in the way of trying to install the first, back up NAND, and then install and do the second? Could I use Modmii to do this?

Or for now is it better to just try to install and run Syscheck? - and again, could I use Modmii for that even with Semi-brick and without Priiloader installed?

Do u have access to the homebrew channel? If so, just save the syscheck to your sd or fat32 USB apps folder and run it via the hbc.

You can probably use modmii, but let's see a syscheck first. Most likely you will need to reinstall the system menu either via the main wizard or the region change wizard

It looks like then Priiloader is installed. But there is no file related to it on SD card, or sign of it in HBC Menu.

Okay, so this is what you do

First, make a nand backup. To do so make sure you have a "bootmii" folder on your sd card. If u are missing it, grab the bootmii sd files from modmii classic (iirc from main menu enter 2, bsd, d, y). Then start the homebrew channel and hit the home button (or hold reset while turning on the wii to access priiloader) and launch bootmii. From there make a nand backup like so:

Then launch Modmii's region change wizard and select 4.3U (or anything u want really). Follow this guide completely.

Finally, run another syscheck, then drag and drop your NEW syscheck.csv file onto modmii.exe, and it will address a few other issues I noticed in your syscheck (you have some patched IOSs that aren't recommended, etc.). After you're finished with your custom syscheck updater guide, you may want to make another nand backup, just so that if u ever need to restore a backup u won't need to repeat any of the above steps

P. S. "virginizing" the console using the Wii's keys (retrieved when making a nand backup) and ohneschwanzenegger can be a backup plan if the above doesn't work... but it will work if u follow the directions carefully

    One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
