Taxman Sonic decompilation developer makes tool that allows you to level edit all Retro Engine games

Rubberduckycooly--the user behind the decomplications of Christian Whitehead's Sonic mobile ports--is back. They've created a new tool for Retro Engine games that can customize a massive variety of details within them. The program is called RetroED, and compiles the features of multiple Retro Engine specific tools that have been rendered outdated or nonfunctional, along with some of its own new capabilities. This allows you to edit game levels by changing and modifying their configs, scenes, and layouts of any of the Taxman Sonic games. RetroED isn't currently released, but is planned to be available before the end of 2021, and will work on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Sweet. These games would be a lot better with more of those invisibility blocks and less enemies getting in the way, now that can finally be achieved.

If it's easy enough to use id like to remove all the obstructions in the levels myself to streamline the playing process.

I see Sonic Mania content in there, is Mania being decompiled as well? Would be fascinating if it were and we could get Mania running on a Wii U and/or Vita.
I think Mania uses the same Retro Engine than the Android ports of Sonic 1, 2 & CD use.
I could be wrong, but the data structure for levels are kinda similar between them all.

All I've ever wanted is for a proper Sonic 3 sprites mod for Sonic Mania lol
Why did they go for the awful Sonic 2 sprites, goddamn.

Holy heck this is awesome! I'll need to give this a shot when it releases!

Sega should allow Whitehead to release his amazing Sonic mobile ports on Steam or Switch or PS4 or something.
Did you forget about Sonic Origins? ; )

is Mania being decompiled as well?
Rubberduckycooly stated that Mania is a far larger game with a more complex engine and 600+ objects, so no(t yet. Anything could change).

It's a newer version of the Retro Engine, but yeah, technically is just a far bigger Sonic 1 or Sonic 2 port, if you will.

the only reason i fear a lawsuit is because this uses a decompiled game rather than build from scratch especially from the creators of mania not Sega themselves
it's sega not nintenDMCA. sega doesn't care about modding. that's why they hired whitehead to do mania in the first place his a modder.

So you want to turn it into sonic rivals where you basically where 99% of the time just holding right?...
