Hi!

I'm trying to play a Metal Gear Solid - The Twin Snakes OST mod via Nintendont on my Wii U. The game loads fine but after the Konami logo I get the following error (see attached image):

"ERROR: module 'shared/mgso__pal.rel' is too big

limit is 4874240
size is 1452174120
over by 1447299880"

I have checked the MD5 and it seems OK. Original ISO plays fine.

Any clue?

Thanks!

are you sure this mod works on original hardware? because from what i searched it only works on dolphin and even then only on some dolphin builds.

The author says it can be played in a GameCube, Wii and Wii U.
there is 2 options
1- you made the patch wrong

2-its a mod that might be incompatible with nintendont since nintendont doesn't run gc home brew and only runs retail games, most mods do work but if they do weird out of memory stuff they wont be compatible since nintendont memory addresses are not the same as a gamecube.

I have repatched the game just in case. It is working on Dolphin, but shows the same error (with different numbers) on Nintendont.

Dolphin is an emulator where Nintendont is not so modified ISO may not work on Nintendont as it expects 1:1 ISOs to be loaded. This is why GameCube homebrew doesn't not work in Nintendont.

I actually downloaded the patch and did the mod myself and it works just fine on nintendont, I'm guessing he is screwing the iso and making the patch badly.

does a wavebird controller work on Wii U with nintendont ? if so does "native control" need to be set to on or off ? does it work as a bluetooth cobtroller and does the adaptor have to be used, if so how does the adaptor plug into a wii U ?cheers :) sorry for double post

Yes it will if you use the USB to 4-port GameCube controller adapter and plug the WaveBird receiver in port 1. Native mode is strictly for the Wii's with built in GameCube ports. I believe you can't toggle Native when using a Wii U (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

The WaveBird uses RF and not Bluetooth.

Unfortunately nobody has heard from him since Nov 2019 when he posted his last commit. Thankfully other talented programmers have stepped up to fix the stuff that still needed fixing.

You can get the latest build from: https://github.com/FIX94/Nintendont/blob/master/loader/loader.dol

Rename loader.dol to boot.dol and copy it to the apps/Nintendont folder like usual.

As far as I know you need an adapter to get Xbox style controllers working with a USB cable as they use XINPUT rather than standard HID.

Understood, thank you, the thing that bugs me most is i love using the wiiu pro controller with nintendont but that half press of the triggers can be annoying lol having to hold down L, what do you use as your primary controller yourself for nintendont and what controller would you recommend to someone as optimal ? cheers

I, ironically, prefer the Wii U Pro controller as it gives me a wireless controller with rumble. Hands down nothing beats a genuine Nintendo GameCube controller but I am addicted to rumble and the WaveBird does not rumble.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
