N64 is full speed on the OG Xbox. Several N64 games run at full speed on the Wii. WiiU is just now seeing PSone work but it’s been on Wii for years and 3DS got it last year. With those old consoles it’s more about if someone wants to code it than if the hardware can do it.
Exactly, all it takes is the right person to take on the challenge.

Looks like we got compressed cores now, boys! :D
https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/commit/93649d914775e8ddc0e0f42be4418d7fd583a295

Quark made the commit today, which I assume is based on @ploggy 's compression explained earlier in this thread.
Huge thanks to both, and to Quark for taking the time to make the WiiU port of RA A much better experience! :D
Nighty's are a couple days behind for some reason but they should start having the compression builds available soon :D

The new build is up!
But theres weirdness going on :P

For some reason not all the Core RPX's in the Retroarch buildbot package are being Compressed? not only that, the ones that are, are actually BIGGER in filesize when Zipped :P wtf?? this means the Retroarch Package in the build bot is now 3x larger than before :P again wtf??

Looks like some of the RPX files are still not being compressed on the buildbot.
You'll notice the filesize reduction when you download the core through the Online Updater, it's just when the RPX's are zipped they become larger, when the Core is downloaded to your SD card then the filessize will be alot smaller ;)

EDIT: All remaining Cores are now being compressed correctly.. ;)

Hi @ploggy and thank you I've been following your work as well as QuarkTheAwesome, ShadowOne333, ...

Just to know, can you please tell me if there is an advantage of compressed RPX files? do they load faster? Or is it that they just occupy less space?

Thanks.

I think there is a difference, but others will have to see if it reduces loading time for them :)

For anyone who was having issues with the Retroarch.rpx not working from the HBL try the new build to see if it works for you now :)

How is this misconception still being said? It's near perfect and has been for a long time, even Goldeneye is close to full speed

But it's true. Some relevant games struggle with default clock. For perfect framerate, you need overclock.

MIPS != ARM, and MIPS != PPC too.

I mean, I wish we get a nice N64 native emulator for wiiU, but keep expectations low. Not every game is going to be playable.

A few n64 games on switch needing overclock (most don't) isn't n64 being barely fullspeed like you said
