Hi Everyone,

Its my first post so I'm hoping I'm abiding by all rules/regs. Let me say THANK YOU big time in advance for those that choose to answer any of these for me before I invest heavily/riskily.

I found a rare unpatched brand new switch at a local shop (XAW1006323) and I'm wondering a few things before I fork over 300 bucks for it.

I have yuzu installed on my BEEFY PC (3080/i7 3.0ghz/16gb ddr4) and some games run well while others dont run at all or run poorly (<60 fps).
Would I get the same experience if these games ran on the actual Switch hardware?

Do the emulators on homebrew (Such as SNES/NES/Dreamcast etc.) work really well on the Switch?
Really well = 60fps+ for me.

I see there are ways to mask your serial so you avoid ban (Incognito).
How well does that work in your experience? Does it properly obfuscate the serial to avoid ban long term?

If money wasn't a factor, what console would you hack and use as a fun side project?
I'm a total nerd, aspiring hacker myself (study alot of coding n shit) so this would be a learning experience for me too.
I want to make sure I picked the right console. (I already have hacked a PS1 and PS2 and love those).

Any other advice would be EXTREMELY appreciated, thank you guys!

Safety guidelines as I attempt to "homebrew" my switch would be appreciated too. I heard something about backing up NAND? No idea what NAND is yet.

Unpatched switch is a great pick imo, esp if you are into handhelds and stuff. With cfw you have so many options like android/linux/lakka, overclocking, homebrews, ports etc. As for emulation, everything up to psp/3ds works really well. That means amazing dreamcast, ps1, n64, psp performance, good 3ds, gc in lakka as well as the rest oldshool stuff like arcades/snes/genesis etc. You also have different choices where to use emulation, either within the native os which is a very convenient and great option overall or with lakka/android which is the best option if you aim for more accuracy/better performance for the cost of convenience.

I didn't really get your question about yuzu/switch performance. I don't use yuzu myself but i assume in some games yuzu easily outperforms switch. Its game dependent, many games on switch run at locked 30 when in yuzu you can easily play with unlocked 60 fps cause the hardware is much better obviously. You can unlock fps in many switch games and achieve smoother gameplay with OC but not many 30 fps games can really achieve 60.

To avoid ban you'll have to create emuNAND which is a copy of your OS but on sd card and use all your dirty stuff there along with serial spoofing and avoiding online... And use your clean NAND for all official stuff. Alternatively, you can safely use Atmosphere for homebrew/sys-modules/emulation on sysNAND if you don't plan to pirate/save scam/install unsigned apps.

If you are not a handheld enthusiast, or aiming for purely emulation, switch isn't the best option for 300$. But other than that imo an unpatched unit with cfw is an amazing piece of tech to have.

Performance varies on the Switch. Not everything even runs at 60 and requires an FPS unlock cheat to allow it to try get that. As an example, Breath of the wild is unlocked to 60 FPS but some areas (such as the korok forest) will tank the FPS.

Emulators also vary but those consoles should be fine.

Incognito is not the only step to avoid bans however with all the steps, people tend to not get banned. But it is a case of some do others don't.

The Switch is honestly the most fun I've had hacking a console. It's just so open and allows for lots of different homebrew.

wow thank you all so much for your responses. I had one question that just occurred to me.

Will I be able to play everything docked? Once homebrewed n all?

Yes, everything in HOS (native OS) and of course android/lakka/linux also support dock as well.

Have you set those emulators up correctly?
Check out Bsod gaming on YouTube to give you an idea of how this should be

That looks like it might be better than yuzu! Going to give it a shot. yuzu has been heavily miss and some hit.
TY!

Personally, Yuzu has better performance but Ryujinx has more features. Obviously performance might vary for everyone though due to the nature of emulation.

For some reason I can't install firmware on it. I used the same prod key I used on yuzu but it gives me an error on firmware updating that it cant see the prod key.

NVM found the right ones lol

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Has anyone noticed that certain ROMS of certain games just dont play well at all then download a different ROM of that same game that works better? Or are they all the same exact thing just maybe different format like XCI vs NSP? Does XCI work better usually or does NSP?

Its the same. Only SX OS supports xci mounting, Atmosphere doesn't cause xci purpose is piracy only. But there's no difference, see it as mounting an iso or unpacking it an installing.
