On the 3DS you can play every Nintendo handheld with nearly zero issues and the portability factor on it is amazing, specially if you have a regular sized new 3DS with dual IPS screens.

I particulary enjoy to play Arcade and PSX games on it, and the 3DS game library is amazing,

My switch is always connectet to the TV so I use it mainly for exclusive games.

I'm not actively using my n3dsxl (or any of my gaming machines) but I do like to pick it up now and again and admire those beautiful dual ips screens.

It took me many years of hunting for a dual, many 3ds models passed through my hands as I bought and sold tens of them, but eventually ended up with what I consider the prettiest one of all... the new 3ds xl fire emblem fates special edition... subtle and beautiful (in my humble opinion).

I bought a Switch I got a deal on then had no interest in playing it yet. I have played my 3ds. So I use it for playing games I guess.

3DS is smaller than Switch.
3DS has 3D.
3DS is 2 screens.
3DS actually lasts longer than Switch.
3DS has more games.
3DS has cameras, 3D cameras.
3DS has street pass, (whatever) you get free stuff when you go past someone else with a 3DS and a shop with the street pass server running (EB Games)
3DS has Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, Metro Prime....
3DS has lots of original games, Switch has those same games but "re-released" for Switch with 1 extra skin you will never use.
3DS is cheaper.
3DS has BC that works great.
3DS is just better.
PS Vita kicks ass on all of them, but $ony are too stupid to do anything with their awesome hardware so they killed it off instead.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

If you don't want to send them in for the free fix (or can't), the recent reports of a fix that seems to fix them pretty well looks fairly easy to do.

2 things.

1st, the limited edition Zelda joy-cons have the fix built in. They actually fixed them but didn't tell anyone.

2nd. The fix is really easy. I did it on an extremely bad drift joy-con and now its got 0 drift. Took about 10 mins the first time.
The 2nd joy-con took about 5 mins as the left and right are different designs but was also really easy to fix.
Just unscrew it, put in a piece of card and screw it back up. Very simple, very quick, works very well.
It was a joy-con from my original console about 4 years old. Its all worn out, the drift was so bad I had to buy new joy-cons. The batteries were flat as they've been boxed for about 2 years. but now they live again. The 2nd set has drift on the right stick. When I can be bothered I'll fix that but enjoying my zelda ones atm so no hurry.
I dont like the neon colors, the greys are extremely hard to find so to bring life back into a set of grey ones its awesome.
Might have to get a few from feebay and fix them and resell them. :) Easy money :)

StreetPass was a good jam before they took down the relay servers. I used to take my bike out to a nearby shopping centre every couple of days and pass a few places. Kinda got to know a few of the other local StreetPassers without ever meeting them. Plus those Mii Plaza games were pretty fun once you got a lot of tags!

I still get the occasional au naturel StreetPass about once a month on average. I've made a few fake games/apps as pranks so they show up as my "most recent software" on other systems.

Aside from that, 3DS still has a great library of puzzle / adventure / visual novel games that keep me quite busy.

I still have it for Fire Emblem and Bravely Default games. Which I hope they get a remaster version of themselves to the Switch b/c those games were extremely popular on the 3DS. Exporting save files is still a strong homebrew from a hacked 3ds which can be used on emulators especially if you have DS flashcards aswell

Thenaya. I use it to make amiibos, that I can then use with my Switch games. But also, 3ds has the absolute best portable Commodore 64 emulator there is.

-playing good nintendo games
-playing online
-portable snes
-it has so many good games i have a hard time picking one to play *chef's kiss*
-admiring what a beauty of a console it is
-grabbing screenshots and references for drawings
-customizing themes
-making animations in flipnote
-playing belly up or sideways in bed to rest my back ( the switch i gotta play belly down because both my joycons have terrible drift, so i can only play with my 8bitdo )
-play DS games
-retroarch machine
and probably more

not trying to go "ahaa the switch sucks because the 3ds can do all this!"
but i really use the 3ds like so.
my switch is gathering dust most of the time, save for the occasions i play splatoon 2, smash bros, or some other more "consoley" games like ff9, resident evil, devil may cry... etc.
i can't play it comfortably like the 3ds, and without a clam shell i'm too worried the screen will scratch, being the scratch magnet it is even though i added one of those protection stickers..
lol nintendo fixes joycon drift for free yk

You buy blank NFC stickers, and flash them using Thenaya. You get the bins by copying an amiibo (which will NOT duplicate an amiibo and cause the real one to get banned or flagged or anything), or searching Google for them.

That's really cool.

Is there an app for the 3DS that can pretend to be an Amiibo (by loading a file) without having to first write an NFC tag?

Dunno. MAKING an Amiibo is far superior, so I never looked into it or paid attention. There is emuiibo on the Switch, but it has its quirks and limitations. My stickers are read as a real Amiibo on ANY system that Amiibos work with, CFW or not.
