Hi, this is my first post and I'd like to point out that this is my first experience with any kind of homebrew on any device. I honestly don't know what I'm doing and some help on these issues would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not really good with computers so I've been following a certain series of guides on youtube by RetroGameCorps on how to do homebrew on the vita. The first video dealt with installing h-encore, enso and vitashell and that went along smoothly. When moving on to the second video on the series (I'll put a link to it below), things got a little messy.

Here it is:

The video is about doing the microSD card hack using the YAMT method. I followed every step on the video and downloaded the YAMT installer onto my vita. After that I went with the instructions to mess with the storage devices section in settings to "TexFAT format GC-SD's storage." Now the video was telling me to open up vita shell and copy all the files from a folder named ux0 to one called uma0. I tried to do this and i kept getting errors. None of the files would copy even when I tried to copy them one by one. The only one that did was a folder titled "app."

I checked the contents and it had different stuff in it than another folder named "app" in ux0. So after a few more error messages, I deleted the "app" folder from uma0 but when I checked back in ux0 to retry copying the files, I saw that the whole ux0 was empty. At this point, I decided to close vitashell and open it again but I couldn't. The error message (C1-2741-4) showed up. I restarted my vita a couple of times and the same problem still exists. I tried to redownload vitashell but it won't let me saying that another error occurred.

I was really confused and I didn't know what to do so I tried to delete vitashell and it wouldn't let me do that with the error message (C1-2741-4) showing up again and again. After leaving my vita on for a while, a message popped up saying that my memory card had been ejected even though it hadn't and that the console needed to restart. I restarted it and when I tried to open up vitashell again, it told me that the data in vitashell had been corrupted and that if I wanted to continue I had to delete everything and start over from scratch. I clicked yes and surprise surprise, it led me back to the (C1-2741-4) error message again. So I closed vitashell and I tried to open up all the other homebrew apps I installed to see if I could do something from there and none of them worked.

I had h-encore, enso, vitashell, and YAMT installer and none of them would open and none of them could be deleted with the same error message (C1-2741-4) showing up each and every time. Can someone help me with what I should do next? Is my memory card done for? I don't want to give up on the whole vita homebrew thing yet and I'd love to give things another go but I just don't know what to do at this point.

I should probably add that the "app" folder that showed up in uma0 after my attempts at copying the other folders wasn't a successful copy. It just showed up in uma0 after each "error can't copy" message I got, that's why I thought to delete it.

@BlasterBlaster ,can you access the settings?
If yes, format internal memory, reset system and then follow this guide.

I tried following the steps you just said, but when I tried to format the memory card the error message (C4-10278-8) popped up saying that the formatting failed and restarted my system anyway. When I checked it everything was still where it was. Does this mean my vita is bricked??

@BlasterBlaster ,turn off the PS Vita, turn it back on by holding the power button to put the PS Vita in safe mode, choose rebuild database and then try to format everything again.

Okay! so after i did the rebuild database thing, i managed to get rid of all the homebrew apps. So, h-encore, vitashell, YAMT-installer, and enso is all gone from the menu. But when I booted up the vita, the enso logo still shows up.

I deleted a game app I had because the logo on the app turned white and I tried to see if the vita would re-download the game when I entered the cartridge. It didn't work and it said that the memory card was removed and restarted itself. When it restarted, I tried to do the format memory card again and was met with the same error message (C4-10278-8) and every time I open up my vita I'm met with an option that says that I need to format the memory card in order to be able to continue, but every time I chose to format, I'm met with the same error message as before. So I'm guessing its still not over yet?

@BlasterBlaster ,I still don't understand if you want to format the internal memory or the external card? Were you able to reset the system to settings?

Sorry but I honestly dont know what I want to format? Originally I just wanted to get rid of the homebrew apps on my vita, but now I just want to stop the error messages from showing up. If it helps, basically what I want to do is to get my vita to a state where its basically the way it would be if I hadn't done anything to it in the first place, so like get it back to its normal state. I haven't tried to select the "restore this system" option in settings yet though, should I do that?

Again, if it helps what I've done so far is press the R+PS Button+On button when turning my vita on, and selecting "rebuild database." After that I tried to "format internal memory" which the vita doesn't let me do at all with the error message showing up. If that's what you meant when you said "reset system to settings" then I guess I wasn't able to do that? Sorry if I'm not explaining myself very clearly, I'm still very new to this whole thing.

@BlasterBlaster ,if you want remove the error(C4-10278-8)I suggest you follow what i wrote in previous posts. You also have Sd2vita installed,if you remove it and do what i wrote:system restore and then format internal memory.

okay I'm going to try that and update you on how it goes. I just wanted to also add that this was the screen that pops up every time I turn on my vita. When I choose to format, it then tells me that I can't format. But again, I'm going to try what you said and I'll let you know how it goes.

Okay so I did the system restore and the error message (C4-10278-8) still shows up when I try to format the memory card. I honestly don't know what else to do. Does this mean I need to get a new memory card?

@BlasterBlaster ,from the error it would seem that the sd card is dead, you should change it with a new one.
Out of curiosity, what brand is it and how much space did it have?
This happens when you buy cheap sdcards and from untrustworthy sites.

Is it the sd card or the 8GB sony memory card that's required to run the vita that's dead? (I have a vita 1000) You might be right though, I bought a SanDisk 128GB for really cheap from a suspicious seller so that might be part of the problem, but the vita was still giving me error messages after I took it out so thats what made me think that the sony memory card might've been screwed instead of the sd card.

those vita memory cards are pieces of shit, so it could've failed on you.
Yeah I've been seeing people talk about how trash they are in a few forums so I don't doubt it. I guess the best thing for me to do now is to replace both the sd card and the memory card? I just hope my vita is still safe to use in the future, I'm scared I might've ruined it beyond hope. I mean the last thing I want is to spend money on a new sd card and memory card only to know that the console itself is screwed

@BlasterBlaster ,if the PS Vita turns on and you manage to go into Safe Mode(hold power for 30 seconds),it is not bricked you have just messed up the memories and now you need new ones to restore it since you have a PS Vita Fat (1000).

I had the issue and found the answer :
- I bought a brand new micro sd and redone the YAMT tutorial from PS VITA GUIDE

The old one was initialized with zzblank.img and used before with storemgr

The problem came from zzblank.img I think
