As the title says, I don’t want to sacrifice my bought copy of Brain Age and never get the chance to play it again once the eshop is discontinued. So I have the idea of installing the Japanese version instead through Wup and putting haxchi on there. Can that work with no hiccups?

you need a legit ticket or the game will not work without sig patches. sig patches would mean something like mocha which would defeat the purpose. if you were to do this with cbhc, you'd brick, because the ticket would be read, and it would be fake. it's only $7.

The issue isn't the $7. The issue is the user still wants to be able to play that DS game after installing Haxchi.

you might be able to with copying the game. usb is set as priority in this regard. I've not tested it though.

that may only work with cbhc though. my cbhc install still shows the rednand icon, so I think it might be reading only off internal storage whenever it uses the title id of the system.xml, so theoretically, the game could work if it's on the usb.

There's a thread here where someone accomplished what you're describing. I don't use Haxchi nor CBHC, so I have no experience with it.

nintendo allows both move and copy when changing location of a game, so it makes no sense to me if they both did the same thing. that's why I think copy, rather than move, might work but only with cbhc where it's doing sig patches based on mlc.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I figured it would work, but I never had the guts to test it myself. what happens when you click on the cbhc title in such an event is dubious. I hear lots of different reports, so I've never tried it.

another suggestion is to use loadiine for the game, but the above may be easier. it takes about a minute for ds games to boot with loadiine on my system.

the full title id is the product code + the last two of the company code (in the meta.xml):

So just to clarify what you all have said, the ds game has to be purchased for haxchi to work with the EUR version of Brain Age being an exception? What would happen if I tried to install haxchi on a ds game that I didn't buy?

it wouldn't work unless you had sig patches installed, which would defeat the purpose. it would most likely say, "the user for this content has been deleted" or something to that effect if you tried booting it.

what's interesting is what would happen if you bought the game, where haxchi would work, then installed the fake version, may be what you're asking. this is something I've done. the fake ticket is read first in this event causing the game not to boot without sig patches. the game also can't be redownloaded and installed, so if you were to delete it, you would have to delete either the ticket bucket or hex out the fake ticket itself. I'm pretty sure that's what will happen if you were to try this. try the cbhc method if you want the easiest way. remember "copy," not move to get the game on both mlc/internal storage and usb. I don't know why nintendo even allowed this as it makes no sense.

The game must be legitimately purchased. If you install Haxchi or CBHC to a game you didn't buy, Haxchi/CBHC would refuse to launch. As said above, since you require CFW loaded before you launch pirated titles, you can't load a pirated title to launch CFW.

There are no exceptions to this.

Well it was worth learning anyway. Maybe I can play the European version of Brain Age instead. They shouldn’t be too different. Thank you all for the info. :)
