you don't need a patch to play the game, but if the game requires higher firmware, either the base game or patch need to be backported. the base game can get by with a fake patch, but an actual patch -- the entire thing must be pkg'd.

the main files that are backported are the eboot, modules, and param.sfo. I got a ways into understanding how backports work, but I quit after this new version of mira was announced that's supposed to make backporting obsolete.

you first must unfself the files. it works on every file except the right.suprx, which I'm not sure if it needs backporting. it's a copyright file, and it's in the about folder. the system decrypts it though, so maybe it does. you can use selfutil on any file, except I was unable to decrypt right.suprx unless I used unfself. selfutil would error.

sorry, it's right.sprx. suprx would've been vita. it would take too long to explain what's going on, and I kinda stopped exploring anyway. I haven't messed with it in months.

that's essentially what those backporting apps are doing. they're using flat z's script files to make their changes. however, it doesn't take into account certain issues related to the sdk, so there's more to it than just resigning. that's why that don't always work. you have to use ghidra or ida to fix these things manually.

Icic but too bad my pc can't support any of ghida or Ida is so so sad. Only I have to wait for the right one or so forget it ..
there are already some people who make backports for people who don't know how: opoisso and cyber to name two. just look on opoisso's twitter for new ones. though, I was never able to figure out how to search through all of them. there's hundreds of backports.

don't know. I know he was going to during the ps3 days, because the biggest problem with the scenes is that people steal others work and give no credit. it happens more often in the playstation scenes than any other or at least it's more public.
I think that's why some uploaders put their name on things in the pkg, since most people don't know how to change what's in a pkg. you can put your name as the provider, or in the name of the item (param.sfo) or in the icon0.png, which I've seen some of my dlc has the person's name instead of the actual icon0.png that the dlc came with.
If I am a web developer also feel so sad with all those hard work done n go in waste

Yup yup. Like cybkl or others as well but I don't know some are not working well or so.
I think the dlc I downloaded for ff 7 remake has the uploader's name in place of the icon it shows when you go to system settings and look at what's installed. I understand it, but I don't like it when people do that.
