Gaming Is it bad to update PS3 games like you're originally supposed to on CFW?

I'm playing through Resistance 2 and it nagged me about an update so I said what the hell and downloaded it. Then I started playing and not even 5 minutes later I get a black screen and have to shut the PS3 off manually. Then I restart the game and it's instantly black screen after I load my save. Zero problems like this before updating, then I delete the update and it didn't help I keep getting black screen now when loading the save. I think it corrupted my save possibly but I don't know for sure.

Edit: I reinstalled the update, and it crashed upon loading the save.

Yeah I was able to reload the previous level and play it, and it freezes at the same spot. Now I don't think it has anything to do with the update but it's the Euro version of the game I have which maybe can't be completed idk. Always freezes at the end of the stage.

I have no idea what that means.

But I'm pretty sure I need the USA version. Can I convert save regions with Bruteforce?

If you are using a "backup game", downloaded or from a disc dump, try to convert to ISO using Irisman. Multiman have this feature too but it is not as good as Irisman. I prefer Multiman for loading games, but use Irisman to create or convert my disc dumps.
Using the games in folder format (USRDIR,TROPDIR folders and such) in some games makes them not work when updated. The most notable is GTA IV.

I'm already using ISOs, but it turned out to be a bad ISO or one where I couldn't complete the game but was fine for about 5 hours. I got another copy from the same region and I was able to progress past that point and have played several more stages now.

I think managunz can also do it, but I've never used the backup loader. the ird will tell you if there's any corruption. what you want is green for all files and red for the update pup file (missing), then you're good.

Hearing about Resistance kinda makes me sad. We need a new Resistance game!!! (Also need a new Mod Nation Racers and Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver.)

Unfortunately Insomniac said they aren't interested in making any new Resistance games, probably not a surprise when they have Spider-man and Ratchet & Clank. Maybe another studio could pick it up.

Yeah I beat all the Legacy of Kain games except the first Blood Omen. There was supposed to be one for PS3 I believe but got cancelled. Not sure they'll ever revisit that series but who knows.

For some reason I never got around to beating the Resistance games back in the day but I beat Resistance Retribution on the PSP and it got me into the series and trying to beat them all now.
