According to a recent Variety report, Netflix is working on a live-action Pokémon series. Variety's sources say that this new series will be similar to the Detective Pikachu live-action movie. Not much details are available about the plot since the project is said to be in its early days. Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. But I was already 30 years old when the first anime series of Pokemon aired, so I have no emotional attachment. Maybe people who were kids then will gush a flood of tears.

If this rumour is accurate, I doubt they'll cancel it because Pokémon is the highest grossing media franchise of all time. Pokémon's estimated total revenue is $105 billion. Mario's is only $34.8 billion. Zelda's is $4 billion, and Star Fox doesn't even make the list meaning less than $2 billion.

Cancelling it would be a terrible business decision, and Nintendo might not own enough of The Pokémon Company, who handles licensing of the franchise, to cancel the show because of a leak.

Do these leaks keep happening just so they can test the waters on how well they'll be received? legend of zelda and starfox both got concerned responses, if I recall. I can see this having enough "YAY" to actually move forward though.
