Hello! For some reason, my 3DS specifically refuses to play any and all 3DS Pokemon games, and has for some time. I thought to use GodMode9's .cia extractor to rip the image from the Pokemon game I own and then go back and install it directly on my 3DS. This is intended to bypass the cartridge slot, which I suspect may be the problem. I also want to make sure that my game, Pokemon X, is updated completely once the .cia is installed. I intend to use the 3DS's regular updating system, bypassing Nintendo e-Shop.

Are there any problems that are bound to arise if I follow this plan? I specifically worry about being network banned if I try to update a digital game that I do not have on the e-Shop, even if I attempt to bypass it. Any other advice is also appreciated. Thank you!

Someone pressed update on my hacked N3DS and now I get:
An exception occurred....
and now I can't get off it. I know I probably need to update the CFW, but no idea what version I was on prior!
HELP?

EDIT: NVM fixed it with latest LUMA

Hi there!

I have a... very special NAND (I have reasons xD) and require to FW spoof some of the "newer" 3DS titles (like Bowser's Inside Story). I often find "spoofed" CIA files in the web and can play those perfectly on my 3DS. But sometimes I don't and I always wondered how to create files like those myself?

I know that there are tools to turn .3ds files into spoofed CIAs, but what about updates and DLCs? Let's say I have a game update CIA file that requires an up-to-date firmware to work properly - can I somehow convert this into a spoofed CIA?

Thanks for any help! :)

Morning all - n00b to the group here :)
Use to have a dsi with a r4 card - now getting back into it with 3DS - the whole game has changed somewhat as to what to do - from my understanding R4 cards etc are only for DS games - to play 3DS games you need homebrew installed and then other software to locally install the game on the sd card.

Working my way through with my 3DS XL with 11.4 fw on it - any recommendations please let me know.

Welcome to GBAtemp!

To install custom firmware to a 2|3DS refer to The Guide:
https://3ds.hacks.guide/
With version 11.4 The Guide will instruct you to update to latest version for easily using a browser exploit as entry point.

Take your time reading. It is not hard to do. At the end you will be able to dump your 3DS games (cartridges) with GodMode9 to .CIA format. CIA files can be easily installed with FBI.

TWiLight Menu++ allows using DS games from the console SD without an R4 (which still can be used as well for DS games).

If you have any further questions or problems, just ask again.

Good luck and have fun!

I've been wondering this for a while now... Every time Nintendo pushes a new firmware update and removes the ability to mod your system with the web browser, we have to go back to using the seedminer method. Part of this method involves adding a bot as your friend. When Nintendo eventually removes the ability to play games online and use friend codes, does that mean it will no longer be possible to install CFW on 3DS systems that haven't been modded yet, since you won't be able to add the bot as a friend anymore?

I dont believe so. Ntrboot I think does not require any bot stuff to get gm9 and the safeb9slauncher on the console to get installed.

Just means that main way to get it done is going to be blocked.

Theoretically yes. But we have as an alternative ntrboot (or hardmod, but this is very crucial). This is the only way which big n can't patch because it uses a flaw in the bootrom. Bootrom=read only memory.

Hello everyone, I am asking this for my sis who had her 3DS "hacked" by a shop. She forgot to ask how to install games and she couldn't figure out the method herself.

Here's a link to the screenshots of the folders and etc.

you put .cia games in the .cia folder and install via fbi ... But more importantly in pic 3 you have a bunch of black icons... do those icons settle into games or do they stay black?

They stay black and they are useless, like there's no way to open them.

How to open FBI? There's a FBI folder but she has no clue how to open or trigger it.

ok so the shop should have installed fbi to the home screen apps but did not so you should follow the link @BaamAlex provided to set up fbi as well as other useful tools when done you will have fbi as an app

As for the blank icons they are improperly installed titles (titles are either games homebrew apps or firmware files) the way to fix them is via fbi so let me know when you get it installed

Sometime ago a firmware update adding certificates for purchased games on the eshop was released, similar to how the Switches digital games work. Have there been any ban reports since this firmware caused by playing backups offline/online without any cheats?

Prior to that firmware they had no way of knowing if a game was legit or not, at least that was my impression.

There are no bans for homebrew usage.
