Minecraft servers are currently down around the globe. The largest server, Hypixel, is down, and has been since late yesterday. Along with this, Mineplex and Cubecraft, 2 large servers, are having their own server issues. According to Hypixel, there were some server hosting issues that caused a loosening of DDOS Protection. This allowed the attack to occur. For those thinking that this may just be a sad thing for the Minecraft community, these DDOS attacks can have severe repercussions. Mirai, the botnet that caused the internet to fail in 2017, was created by 3 grad students as a protection scheme for Minecraft servers .

they must be attacking the "connector" servers. Hypixel are over 350+ servers that host their massive worlds.

hypixel can stay down, the server is ridiculously microtransaction ridden, and you get banned if your username has nipple in it

i've had one of my accounts banned from it for years because i made the mistake of trying to join it with vivecraft, later they fixed the instant ban issue by just kicking you and saying "the mod isn't supported", what a shit server

you got any ideas, wise guy?
If it were my job, sure. There are people who get paid to figure this shit out. If Amazon can circumvent adblockers, these big tech firms can figure out DDOS protection.

Pretty much, especially since it seems to be the login server that is getting attacked. Why haven't they put it on a CDN that can mitigate it is just weird.

Also Hypixel are over 350 servers combined for the whole realm.

There's no magic switch you can turn on to stop DDoS attacks. Currently, the only methods are to have police target servers sending these attacks or to have a datacenter set up for taking the brunt of the attack while allowing normal traffic through. Any service claiming to be DDoS protected usually means the latter of those two.

You see my point, then?

I get it, DDoS attacks aren't something that is easily circumvented. However, they've been a prominent issue for a while now. It's just weird to me that these are STILL the two main methods of addressing this issue.
