Hey all!

Brand new to VITA jailbreaking and I just got a Japan lime green import VITA! It has 3.65 on it already and seems the previous owner never updated to the latest firmware.

This means I don't have to downgrade which is great but I have conflicting info. I am interested in doing the permanent CFW molecule but some sites say I need to log into PSN before the jailbreak. Is that true? Do I need to log into PSN which would require me to update the system? Just a little confused about that step.. Thanks!

Thanks!

He is using H-encore, instead of henkaku, long term it is easier to setup CFW on 3.60 than 3.65, it is your choice.

I mean I would rather not go through the trouble of downgrading if I dont have to. Any disadvantages of 3.65? Do I still need to connect to the PSN for this guide to work?

Thanks!

higher list of homebrew compatiablity on 3.60 and easier setup for henkaku, it is your choice, since both 3.60 and 3.65, have permanent CFW. For people that were coming from like 3.73 they would go to 3.60 instead of 3.65.

Gotcha thanks for the info! Now it says some VITAS like the one used in the video started with a shipped firmware of 3.65. That means you really cant go any lower right?

And do you still need to connect to the PSN for any perm CFW to work at first? Thanks!

I see nowadays little point staying on 3.60 - it seems to be more of a habit than necessity. The homebrews not running on 3.65 are probably some very niche titles, all the major ones run completely well on 3.65 henkaku/enso. Also, with 3.65 the need of custom patches for games vanishes almost completely, as 3.65 runs practically all of the titles out of the box.

Also there's nifty little updater from theFlow which upgrades 3.60 CFW console to 3.65 nearly automagically.

//EDIT
Whatever you do, remember to set all the spoof options from Settings->Henkaku settings. Including the spoofed firmware number which must be set manually to 3.73.

Awesome THANK you for the great info :) Only question I have left is - Is there a need to connect to PSN before jailbreaking? Some guides say you need to? Thanks again!

Ive been using this and from memory I'd say no PSN connections are needed. In addition, the guide first downgrades to 3.60, so then you can make your decision whether to stay on that FW or upgrade to 3.65 Enso using "The Real Enso Installer" from theFlow.

(IIRC the guide does even cover this...)

from what I've heard on psx place, you may have a problem with not updating. due to changes in how psn works, 3.60 and 3.65 can no longer sign in unless you use the re auth kernel plugin. it seems that it's fallen victim to the same bs that the ps3 has (probably ps4 as well) where lower firmware is prevented from signing in. this seems to be relatively recent, but this plugin is only usable with enso, so 3.60 and 3.65 only. here's the thread: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/cant-connect-to-store-on-enso-3-60.34318/#post-299338

Thanks mate - I was just thinking of adding this info, but you got there first. Kinda essential now, if PSN access is needed.

I don't know much about hencore, but if a game is need through qcma, I can see it probably requiring signing in just to get your account id. the cma alphanumeric is the little endian of the account id, which seems to be tied to the id.dat. I've tried using qcma without an account id before, and it wouldn't let me.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

this is a good site to have (might be in that tutorial): http://cma.henkaku.xyz/

by aid, it's referring to the little endian account id, so whatever the qcma folder is named. this will allow you to decrypt and reencrypt qcma content. I tried using the non little endian account id (the one in the id.dat), and it wouldn't decrypt anything. the cma version does, for anything I believe. it's never failed me. :) this may be need for hencore to inject a hacked version of an exploitable game or something, but I don't know much about hencore.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I think that key is the aes key (used for decrypting cma stuff).

Haven't yet seen this myself - all the titles I've been playing on PSTV (my go-to console lately) have worked aok. Need to do this soonish though, not for trophies nor psn games but I have to remarry my Vitas to my newest PS3 fatty :D

So what about a purely OFFLINE VITA? Literally no interest in going online with it? Only using it for my backups and homebrew. Skip the online check?

I never use qcma, but I remember something about bitter smiles. you can decrypt it with pkg2zip (might need zrif unless it's free). remember to use -x command or else the files won't be sorted into a single folder. nps browser has this command in the command line in settings to make sure that it works correctly.

I don't know, I thought you had to use an exploitable game for hencore or at least one of the exploits for the vita via qcma. if so, you might have to sign in to get your account id. I was never able to make a connection with qcma without having an account id.

And back to basics, remember I am doing this for the first time on a VITA :) What is qcma?

Just making sure - this is a lime green slim PCH-2000? Have to ask, because phats need a Sony original memcard for installing henkaku/enso.

Also, you do need network access to Vita - even if no PSN connection is made, as you'll be transferring files over using FTP

cma is the official way to get things on to the system (one of the big reasons the system was such a failure, since it's a pita)). qcma is an alternative made by a developer. it won't force you to update in order to use it from what I remember. the official cma will.
