After the reveal of A Plague Tale: Requiem at the E3 2021 Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, Asobo Studio announced yesterday during the Xbox Games Showcase Extended stream that the first opus of the series, A Plague Tale: Innocence, will come to new platforms.

This new version of the game will be enhanced to feature 4K UHD (only on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5), 60 FPS, and 3D audio support. It will also launch on Nintendo Switch as a cloud-based title.

A Plague Tale: Innocence will launch on these new platforms this July 6th. To know what to expect of the game before it launches, you can read our official review of the PC version linked below where the game scored 8.5/10.

What's a "cloud title"? Is it streaming? Or is it download on demand?
Streaming, I would imagine. No reason for it to be "cloud version" otherwise. Wouldn't be the first Switch game to do so.

I don't inherently mind cloud versions as a way to make games more accessible, but it's the way they're marketed and priced that rubs me the wrong way - with publishers expecting these lag-dependent, non-portable, non-permanent ports to be treated the same way as actual stand-alone releases. I can see it catching on if they slash the price and/or put these cloud games on some sort of cheap monthly subscription, but otherwise the trend is doomed to fail.

How is it gonna be cloud based on switch?
theey just stream the game...

resident evil 7 was cloud streamed in japan on switch and some other games already did this before, basically you buy like 1 week or afew days worth of streaming(depends on the price) and you stream the game to the switch, this is not the first or last time this was made, guardians off the galaxy will be cloud version too on switch.

Cloud ? LOL! No thanks. What a waste. I will stick with PS5 version. Maybe they will re-release it as physical when Nintendo Switch "Pro" or something like that.

Cloud version - much like streaming games in Nvidia Shield TV/Tablet, I've played this on PS4 and it's a good game, but buggered if I'm going to even bother with this on the switch. It would have been nice to see and NSP/XCI of this, so it's cloud only, I'll be sticking to the PS4 version.

I guess that's a way to combat piracy with pseudo-DRM 'cloud titles'... but kinda defeats the purpose of having a Switch to 'play anywhere', and in the future if they decide to end online support you are screwed! Next thing we know we will have dock-only titles.

Btw do you have to pay for the full game or you just need to have an online active subscription? and does said subscription also unlock other games or you would need to have one subscription for each and every cloud game you want to play? (I imagine this subscription is not the nintendo online subscription, but some sort of dev-specific subscription, right?)

And does the game play well? Do you have to pre-download any files or it's all streamed? I think that the performance would be greater than of what the Switch would be capable off doing if it was a regular release but I still expect some sort of lag, granted that it would depend on the internet connection. Does it consume too much traffic and all the work is done on the cloud or some of it is on the Switch itself? How about battery consumption?

I don't know what to make of this, if devs are going this cloud route to bypass the limitations of the Switch or just because it's a easier way than fully porting the games (especially next-gen ones) without to much compromising to the Switch? Also this all cloud thing could be related to the rumored nintendo-microsoft collaboration IMO.

first off the game is only cloud streamed for some time i think it was like a year for resident evil or something like that, and like i said you rent time, you dont buy the game you buy time to play the game like x amount of days.

The game like any streaming service depends on good internet connection to work, the faster it is the better it runs just like google stadia.

there is some files but they hardly occupy any space they are probably client/server stuff, everything is streamed no game files are downloaded.

This is the easiest/cheapest route for devs, they dont need to port the game they just make it stream the pc version and they make a controller interface and they are good.

There is no subscription service for this games so far we got like 2 or 3 and each game is its own thing and like i said they dont last much, there is no grand plans to follow like this method, nintendo would never make cloud only game since they sell games at full price for years unlike sony and microsoft that an AAA 1st party game is down to like half after 6 months at best to buy on retail stores.

lolcloud title. full price for a xeroxed rental, nah I'm good. I'd rather lesser graphics than a "cloud title".

but other than that grossness, seems like a fun title.

So in the case of resident evil they supported it for a year and then scrubbed it completely? No physical or digital release, nothing?

Btw IIRC there are already some tools on the Switch homebrew scene that allows streaming games from your PC and I think there are even solutions to make services like stadia work too. I didn't try any of them so can't speak how well it works.

If Nintendo was smart they would start a streaming service to stream Gameboy, Gameboy Color , GBA , DS, and 3DS games

But hey what do I know.... I can already do all of those things on my CFW Switch

again its a cloud streamed game how would they sell you a ohysical or digital copy? nothing is saved on the switch you are just playing the pc version through the switch screen so yeah no releases and the devs arent gonna keep the servers up forever for streaming a single game on the switch, they did it for some time so people who wanted to play re7 on switch itself.
